As part of the ongoing commitment IRONMAN has to support triathlon at grassroots level, the development of IRONKIDS events in the UK has been a key focus for 2014. Building on the success of IRONKIDS UK, organisers can now confirm that IRONKIDS will be incorporated at all three of its UK races.
IRONMAN 70.3 Exmoor will introduce its inaugural IRONKIDS run on Saturday 15 June 2014 and IRONKIDS Wales has changed its format from a splash / run on the beach to a run in the heart of Tenby’s town centre, with the kids finishing under the iconic IRONMAN finish arch.
The introduction and amendment to these two events follows the phenomenal success of IRONKIDS UK in Bolton, which has doubled its entrants in 2 years to a sell out 2,000 making it the largest IRONKIDS in the world. Supported by Bolton Council, the event will once again take place in and around Bolton’s Victoria Square on Saturday 19th July.
Aimed at encouraging kids to lead an active, positive and healthy lifestyle IRONKIDS events are open to children aged 3-14. They are very much targeted at local kids to come and have a go as well as those whose parents are competing, so they too can feel part of the action of a World Class event.
The events have different distances depending on the child’s age and each child will receive a special commemorative IRONKIDS t-shirt in their entry pack and a medal after completing their run to celebrate their achievement.
Kevin Stewart, Managing Director of Ironman UK and Ireland commented, “We want to encourage as many kids as possible to come and experience an IRONMAN event. Hopefully their participation will give them a taste of the sport and inspire them to compete in triathlon in the future.”
Entries are now open for all IRONKIDS events, so to make sure your child doesn’t miss out on this fabulous opportunity to be part of the action of an IRONMAN race weekend in the UK, please visit www.ironkids.co.uk for further information and online entry – to be completed by parents or guardians.
