Londoner, and hopefully Rio-bound, Perri Shakes-Drayton to start the Vitality North London Half Marathon on Sunday 20th March.
As a super 400m hurdler, Perri’s numerous athletics abilities probably won’t stretch to 13-odd miles like you guys. But she will be there to count us out and count us back to the finish line at Wembley (same in the kids’ race too).
Looking good!
(unlike my training)

“I love local running events and always enjoy the opportunity to give back to the community by coming along, showing my support and giving encouragement to the runners,” says Perri. “I believe having an athlete present inspires those involved and I enjoy encouraging people, especially youngsters. It’s nice to be able to take the time out to support these events: many people have set themselves a goal while others are doing it for fun! Either way, the vibe, energy and enjoyment reminds me why I got involved in athletics. I’m really looking forward to officially starting the two races and will be particularly pleased to see all the children complete their mile.”
The Vitality North London Half Marathon is returning for its second year with an epic stadium to stadium route incorporating Saracens’ Allianz Park at the half-way point and finishing inside the iconic Wembley Stadium under the famous arch.
“We are delighted that Perri will be joining us to lend her support to all our runners,” says Jamie Warren, Head of Marketing at GO2 Events. “Having an inspirational athlete at the start line gives added motivation to runners and the children will have an extra treat as Perri will be there to welcome them all back too. She will bring a little extra magic to the day and we are privileged to have her take time out to join us on race day.”
Neville Koopowitz, CEO of Vitality, the title sponsor of the Vitality Run Series, said: “We are delighted that Team GB athlete, Perri Shakes-Drayton, has agreed to start the Vitality North London Half Marathon. This will not only raise the race’s profile but will also provide a fantastic memory for all our runners on the day.”
