The rumour mongers are filling my inbox with tales of the Garmin Swim 2. Well, not exactly filling. But here we go…
All of the following should be preceded with the word APPARENTLY. I haven’t seen MUCH evidence of one and I don’t know if it really exists.
It’s due imminently, which means this week or next in my eyes but the evidence looks to be saying early June (10th). And that rather vague evidence may well only mark an announcement rather than a release (normal for Garmin)…in which case it could be for a September/October release of the Fenix 4. but let’s not get carried away, the evidence might only be a retrospective filing (I don’t think it is tho) or even the long-rumoured ‘fashion’ watch (really!?!).
As we’ve said previously, the time is right for the Swim 2. It’s been a while since the last one.
New functionality that is destined for the Fenix 4 and 930XT will be worked through in the Swim 2 first of all.
That should include functionality like SWIM WORKOUTS. Watch out tri watches…functionality on its way.
Don’t worry lovers of the Fenix 3. The Swim 2 will be round.
On the hardware front do NOT expect to see optical HR. Instead there will obviously be compatibility with the super nice, existing HRM-TRI and HRM-SWIM caching HR monitors.
The omission of optical could be a mistake with FINIS SWIMSENSE LIVE set to steal the show with the introduction of optical on their new device – possibly also imminent to the market.
A vibrating metronome of some sorts could be useful as could be improved swim alerts.
Perhaps there will be more of a nod to open water functionality as, at least in the UK, that is a growing sport. Albeit relatively small and I would have thought driven by the surge in triathlon popularity.
Perhaps there will be scope for some sort of outdoorsy navigational device like the Varia Vision but for Swim? (no!)
So will there be a big splash this week with this exciting news? Or is this all wrong and I am merely reporting the fabled damp squib? We’ll see. 🙂
PS In case you thought the Swim 2 wasn’t so exciting there are also rumours of a second Swim 2 released at the same time ?!? I would imagine that maybe there is an Asian and US version…eesh.
