Polar Vantage – The Wait Is Over

At 11 O’clock UK time today I will be releasing LOTS of Polar Vantage insights that go beyond the marketing materials coming from Polar and elsewhere and based on hands-on experience with the first beta units.

This time I will be doing that through multiple, detailed posts about specific aspects of the devices. There is a lot of new and innovative stuff to talk about.

Polar Vantage Specifications M Vantage V, V800 M430 Comparison

My content today will be based on the standard launch materials that Polar have released to the media, my experiences with the Vantage(s) so far (including accuracy) and some chats with the lovely people at Polar. I DID manage to get answers to nearly all of my awkward questions, so hopefully I may have some juicy Polar Vantage tidbits on insights that no-one else has yet figured out.

Polar Vantage M, Polar Vantage V – What’s New

Nearly all of today’s content from me will be fully public but some will be only for supporters for a day or so.

Polar have already stated the name as POLAR VANTAGE and the image below, from Polar, clearly shows two watches.

Polar Vantage V, Polar Vantage M – Colours

Polar also specifically allowed media people to start saying from Monday 10th September that they were at a media launch event and that ‘it was exciting’…actually it was. I had the devices before the event and the new stuff is pretty cool.

Vantages: I’ve run with it (them), swum with them and biked with them. I’ve had a shower with them and slept with them. Hey!…someone has to do it 😉

Polar Vantage V – First Rides & Provisional Look At BETA Accuracy

I think it has been worth the wait. The Polar Vantage models both look good. They have new stuff and innovative stuff – both hardware and software. There is new functionality on FLOW and even FLOW SYNC is upgraded to version 3 .

Running Power : Polar Vantage M, Polar Vantage V

This is a major product release, it is NOT like the relatively minor upgrades of last years Polar M460 and Polar M430.

      1. less important: tiny yes and huge no. So… another round of 🙇‍♂️. From what I‘ve heard they have ANT+ hardware/chipssets on board, but they don‘t use/activate it.

      2. yeah but…
they could activate it but then they have to support it (different profiles fp/bike/etc)…#not trivial and what if the antennae is optimised for it…there must be lots of other things that could go wrong (and probably would)..anyway. it’s not going to happen. it’s not got the label on the box (they would have to reprint all boxes AND get FCC approval for that frequency)

i thought that it cold be on the vantage. if they were ever going to make the move it would have been now.

i think we all need to get over it. (No, i haven’t either….) BLE is a PITA for me

      3. RE: supporting both protocols: Many other (small/smallish) companies can do that and *do* it. Biggest drawback of BLE is the lack of concurrent connections.

RE: IF they were: Jupp. I think they really missed a huge chance here. ⚰️ (e.g. In my little world/area I know ~20 people who have been waiting for that; they will stay with Grrmin).

RE: BLE is PITA: Jupp. It‘s difficult. 🎻😩
