Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM Announced

Wahoo Elemnt Roam Announced

Today Wahoo Fitness have announced the new Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM GPS Cycling Computer

It’s a colour-screen version of a physically enlarged Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT, making it the larger size of the ELEMNT.

It’s otherwise pretty much identical to the BOLT except from the inclusion of routable mapping and a few other bits and pieces like free worldwide maps. The bigger screen and extra LED strip are as per the larger, original ELEMNT.

It’s positioned as a bikenav directly against the recently announced Garmin Edge 530. The product details for the ROAM have been around for a few weeks now, perhaps explaining the unexpectedly low price of the Edge 530 at GBP260/USD300.

There has been some great work on the Wahoo app recently and I’m pretty sure that there are some interesting firmware additions for the ROAM arriving soon (most probably for all ELEMNTS). Patience is a virtue and you will see Varia integration and even better workout syncs later in 2019. And usability is a great thing not to be underestimated, in fact it is one of THE things.

I’ll add my 2 pennies/cents worth at some point, or maybe inflation has inflated the value of even my opinions to 5c as well as increasing the price of bike computers. Let’s see.

  • Maurten — The race nutrition trusted by elite athletes. Gels and drink mixes engineered to be easy on the stomach. I use them.
  • Garmin Varia RTL515 — A radar rear light that alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind. Pairs with your Edge or Garmin watch. I use this model.
  • Favero Assioma Pro RS2 — The power-meter pedals most serious cyclists choose. Accurate, easy to move between bikes. I use this model.
