Casio Pro Trek Smart WSD-F30 GPS Accuracy

<= Return to the main Casio Pro Trek Smart Review WSD-F30

GPS Accuracy Summary: Easy conditions delivered VERY ACCURATE GPS results from the F30. However, it performed relatively poorly in more difficult conditions when GPS obstacles were introduced like trees, building and underpasses. I’m not sure how that will translate to your overall hiking usage. Clearly, on open moors and hills, you should get good results but when walking in forests and valleys performance might be variable (IDK).

Some Examples

The Casio WSD-F30 (green) has good GPS along a tree-lined path and handles a sharp turn well. Contrast that to the Fenix 6 (red) which is nearly as good, whereas the 945 (blue) uncharacteristically loses the plot somewhat.

Further on in the same run, the Casio is still doing very well and the F6 generally well, but the F6 starts to struggle in places. Elsewhere on this run (not shown) the Fenix 6 was OK but didn’t match the WSD-F30.

Here we have some sections of my formal 10 mile GPS test. The Casio WSD-F30 (red), Fenix 6 (GALILEO, green) and Ambit 3 (blue) are shown. The tree-lined paths were handled well by the Fenix 6 and Casio but the latter had issues when the signal was lost in an underpass on the 3rd image.  Some other sections of this run show the F30 handling long sweeping curves under trees well in one segments but below average later in a segment of similar difficulty.

Here are the same 3 watches on 3 sections with increasing difficulty due to building from the first being the easiest. (Casio Red).

Note: I used the Casio Pro Trek Smart WSD-F30 only to test the GPS whilst running and over a limited number of runs (3, totalling 35km). Running is a harder case for GPS accuracy than when you are hiking. So it’s possible you might get better results than me when in the wilds.

You can look at some exercise files here on my formal course if you want more detailed info.
