King Alfred’s Way – new 350km/200+ mile Off-Road Trail
Cycling UK has just announced the ‘completion’ of King Alfred’s Way. This route has been under construction for just under ten thousand years (literally!) and is finally suitable for MTB and gravel bike owners to take on a beautiful and challenging 200-mile loop in Southern England. I’ve put links to everything you need to know, below, including some route files that I’ve added TBT to.
The great thing with a circular route like this is that you can drive to any part of it, do the whole loop and have your car waiting for when you finish. No need for your partners to come and collect you from far-flung places. Furthermore, being in central-Southen England the loop can be accessed relatively easily from the Midlands, London and the West Country. In a nutshell…this is one of my weekends for 2021 sorted out. 2 days? …maybe, it’s not so hilly.
King Alfred’s Way – Route Manual
Cycling UK has produced a GREAT advance planning booklet in digital format. This is a multi-day trip and so there is info on places to stay and refreshment stops.
