Shimano RC902 S-Phyre – Road Comp

Jumbo Visma seems to be doing alright so far at TdF2020. No doubt the ongoing success is due, in part, to the S-Phyre ‘Comp’ level of shoes from Shimano. Indeed Wout van Aert wore these in his victory in the 2020 Milan-San Remo.

The super-new RC902 model is announced today but Jumo Visma ‘somehow’ managed to wangle a few free pairs to kick off their Tour.

Understanding the Shimano Shoe codes

  • TR – Triathlon
  • RC – Road Comp
  • RP – Road (Pro? not as good as the RC)
  • RC9 came before RC901 and now we have the RC902. You can guess what the next iteration will be called in a couple of years.
  • S-Phyre is Shimano’s high-end, apparel-cum-accessory sub-brand

Shimano RC902 – What’s New?

They look similar to the previous model and look sweet. I’m pretty sure they have the new BOA Fit System Li2 dials which were announced a month or so ago and one of the bigger differences to the lower model (RP901, that I have) is that the RC902 has TWO Boa dials, one of which replaces a velcro strap at the front. Shimano will also variously claim that these are comfier and better able to transfer power. Most importantly…they look the part 😉

Here’s my review of the lower model that I regularly use.
