Zwift to introduce pacers

Zwift are currently testing the PACE PARTNERS feature in their FutureWorks lab.

I’ve found that my visits to Zwift tend to either be a solo effort or a group ride that turns into a full-blown race. Sometimes our training schedules or motivations necessitate a more constant effort and the virtual illusion of sociability. PACE PARTNERS seems to hit the spot nicely in solving such first-world problems.

The pace bots run regularly on a schedule from 01:30 to 11:30 EST and 13:30 to 23:30 EST and only on Watopia for cycling. All you have to do is join a ride with a Zwifter called PACE PARTNERS on Watopia and you are good to go.

You are started off with a quick boost for a few seconds to get into the group and then you will be paced according to the chosen pace partner who will go at these effort levels

  • A = Amelia Anquetil: 4.0 w/kg and over
  • B = Bowie Brevet: 3.2–3.9 w/kg
  • C = CoCo Cadence: 2.5–3.1 w/kg
  • D = Diesel Dan : 2.4 w/kg and under

Is this a good idea?

A: Yes

Now go and cycle.

My favourite kit and nutrition

  • Maurten — the race nutrition trusted by elite athletes. Gels and drink mix engineered to be easy on the stomach.
  • Garmin 90-degree charging adapter — the small adapter that keeps your charging cable tidy at the stem. Essential for race day.
  • Garmin charging puck — the fastest and most reliable way to top up your Garmin before a session.
  • Ravemen FR300 — front light that mounts directly under your Garmin or Wahoo head unit. Keeps your bars clean and your beam pointed where it matters.
  • Garmin Varia RTL515 — radar rear light that alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind. Pairs with your Edge or Garmin watch.
  • Stryd — the footpod that brings running power to your Garmin. The single most useful running upgrade I have made.
  • Favero Assioma Pro RS2 — the power meter pedals most serious cyclists end up choosing. Accurate, easy to move between bikes.
