Coros Pace 3 – 20-25% price rises – Are They Justified?

Coros PACE 3 gps running watchCoros Pace 3 – 20-25% price rises – Are They Justified?

The new Coros Pace 3 (review) is launched today and offers improved hardware over its predecessor. But has the company lost its dominance of the ‘value’ end of the pricing with inflation-busting 20-25% price hikes?

The old Pace 2 price of £180 seems like a bargain as it is well below the psychological £200 level and it will probably get cheaper still in upcoming Black Friday sales.

Pace 3 still has many benefits but its lack of music Spotify streaming support, lack of onboard maps (or dwMaps), and lack of a third-party app store cast some doubts in my mind when compared to Garmin FR55/(65)/255/265. And its lack of AMOLED screen casts further doubts when we look at the only slightly more expensive Polar Ignite 3. It’s only a running (sport) watch after all, it’s not as if you could wear it to more formal occasions like the Suunto 5 Peak.

Garmin Forerunner 255 is on sale at £229 and Forerunner 255 at £120. They seem like better buys to me at those prices.

What do you think?

My favourite kit and nutrition

  • Maurten — the race nutrition trusted by elite athletes. Gels and drink mix engineered to be easy on the stomach.
  • Garmin 90-degree charging adapter — the small adapter that keeps your charging cable tidy at the stem. Essential for race day.
  • Garmin charging puck — the fastest and most reliable way to top up your Garmin before a session.
  • Ravemen FR300 — front light that mounts directly under your Garmin or Wahoo head unit. Keeps your bars clean and your beam pointed where it matters.
  • Garmin Varia RTL515 — radar rear light that alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind. Pairs with your Edge or Garmin watch.
  • Stryd — the footpod that brings running power to your Garmin. The single most useful running upgrade I have made.
  • Favero Assioma Pro RS2 — the power meter pedals most serious cyclists end up choosing. Accurate, easy to move between bikes.
