If you are a Wahoo bike computer owner and inclined to the occasional bit of triathlonning then this is a must-buy watch at well over 50% off. Heck, if I were considering a new plastic Coros Pace 3 then I would think again with the Elemnt Rival – Wahoo has a decent app, decent features and Rival also supports ANT+ sensors. Sure, Pace 3 is feature-packed but if you just want quality sports watch features in a high-quality titanium shell then $99 is an unbelievable price. So unbelievable that Wahoo UK has sold out…although new stock might apparently on the way.
In answer to your next question, no I don’t know if there is a Rival 2 inbound. Rival is only just over 2 years old and you’d tend to release a triathlon watch in Spring. More likely is that Wahoo is simply responding to commercial opportunities.
why Buy?
It’s a good triathlon watch
You already have Wahoo kit (bike computer, indoor trainer)
Wahoo is good at updating firmware on old watches when new features are released…this should remain updated with current features for years (it has most of the required triathlon features in any case)
Quality construction materials
Easy to use like Wahoo’s bike computers, minimises button presses
I use the geni.us link as that determiens where you are and serves the correct countries URL
At this price, like some of the commenters on your other post on this, I am tempted just to get one “for the heck of it” but I am holding off because I’m not sure what it adds to my suite of tools that I don’t already have.
I use a 945 for my running, and all my other quanitfiable training (strength work etc). And for my cycling I use the 945, supplemented with a 5+ year old Lezyne head unit that is just so robust and overengineered it simply won’t quit. I don’t think this Wahoo will add anything the Lezyne isn’t already doing and it certainly isn’t going to improve on the 945 (except for native power of course).
I only (rarely) do Duathlons, so the multisport aspect is probably adequately covered by my 945 too.
some of the colours have sold out
yes, i dont think it will add much to your collection.
I unsure if the N+1 rule applies when it comes to sports watches. probably not in my experience.
Which hr strap is recommended for Rival if you do triathlon? Tickr X has ipx7 rating, but provides running dynamics, while other straps don’t. I guess that Tickr X will die when you swim with it?
i think it will, yes.
a polar or garmin would be my choice. but you wont get hr from the swim portion. polar oh1 could easily cache everything and broadcast when out of water but getting the hr swim in the right ecosystem will be very tricky from that
use the oHR! even tho its inaccurate
I have not see the Wahoo Rival at this price in the UK. Is it a scam?
its on wahoo’s site
obvisouly I wouldn’t knowingly post a scam, so you’d need to tell me that you knew it was…which it isn’t
wahoo are selling LOTS and LOTS of them at this price. I get commission, so i’ve seen the volumes they sell that come from me
I can see it on wahoo page.
yes, it’s literally here: https://uk.wahoofitness.com/devices/sport-watches/elemnt-rival-buy?rfsn=1864709.553abe271
