Peloton Ditches Then Unditches Apple Watch Gymkit SupportPeloton ditches Apple Watch GymKit support

TL;DR – Peloton is stopping support for Apple Watch GymKit. Instead, it wants fitness fans to use its own fitness app for all their metrics. It’s not really a problem for anyone.

Edit: Stop the Press. Peloton just changed its mind and nothing is changing.

In an email on Monday, Peloton said from February 27th it will move Apple Watch users from GymKit to Peloton One-Tap tracking. this is a little surprising as GymKit integration was originally a big selling point for Peloton’s more expensive Bike+. But more recently, Peloton’s app lets any machine track Apple Watch heart rate and calories burned.

The only scenario where you might have to use GymKit is if the machine hasn’t got the latest software and I guess that could happen in some corporate gym scenarios.

With GymKit and One-Tap, workout stats still sync to Apple Health. You can see distance, pace and heart rate on your watch or tablet screen. So not much may change if you have recent updates.

If you enjoy tracking long-term health data in Apple Health, that can only happen through Peloton’s app instead of GymKit.

My favourite kit and nutrition

  • Maurten — the race nutrition trusted by elite athletes. Gels and drink mix engineered to be easy on the stomach.
  • Garmin 90-degree charging adapter — the small adapter that keeps your charging cable tidy at the stem. Essential for race day.
  • Garmin charging puck — the fastest and most reliable way to top up your Garmin before a session.
  • Ravemen FR300 — front light that mounts directly under your Garmin or Wahoo head unit. Keeps your bars clean and your beam pointed where it matters.
  • Garmin Varia RTL515 — radar rear light that alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind. Pairs with your Edge or Garmin watch.
  • Stryd — the footpod that brings running power to your Garmin. The single most useful running upgrade I have made.
  • Favero Assioma Pro RS2 — the power meter pedals most serious cyclists end up choosing. Accurate, easy to move between bikes.
