Garmin Fenix 7/Epix get European Outdoor Maps+
…at a price.
More: Coverage HERE
Outdoor Maps+ is Garmin’s way to sell a wide variety of premium mapping content that is regularly updated. Coverage was initially limited to North America but now includes Western Europe and other areas. Maps are delivered directly to compatible Garmin devices like Fenix 7 and Epix via Wi-Fi.
For a single annual subscription price of $/£50 you get TOPO Pro maps including roads and trails, points of interest, and contour lines
Outdoor Maps+ supplements the mapping preloaded on select Garmin smartwatches and GPS handhelds with additional features, including:
- Satellite Imagery: See a high-resolution perspective from above with photorealistic maps that download directly to compatible devices, available worldwide.
- Night Lights: Find the best locations away from light pollution for stargazing, camping or just getting away, available worldwide.
- HD Relief Shading: Utilize improved mapping detail with shading that helps visually depict elevation changes and terrain features in all 50 U.S. states and many European countries.
- 2D Buildings: Specific to European countries, view a map layer with an area footprint of buildings, which can be toggled on or off at the user’s discretion.

Alternative: TalkyToaster.me.uk – is a dedicated Garmin map site with some great OSM options with global coverage and lower costs.
Looks like a reasonable approach to continue offering beyond baseline mapping in the OSM age. The website is suprisingly unclear about subscription scope, as in is it per device or is it for all devices connected to an account. I suspect that they could get a lot more with the promise that the subscription bought for a montana or GPSmap will also make the watch a little more awesome, but upstream license agreements with mapping data suppliers might make that difficult. And they’d better put support on “fitness” and “automotive” devices on the agenda to make that multi-device promise (if it exists!) more attractive.
Subscription is for all supported devices, but all devices need to be connected to the Explore App. There is an instructional video from Garmin on YouTube
One subscription for all devices. It stated on webpage and I can confirm – I have it on my Montana 700 and Tactix 7 AMOLED
ty
that makes it more attractive to many people as @usr says

Just had a closer look at the Topo Pro coverage within Maps+ on the Garmin GB website and it seems to be only certain countries in Western Europe; with one notable omission being the UK. Caveat emptor and the devil is in the detail…etc.

Jerome MAIRE dedicated an article on comparing/installing third-party maps, with this one as a must have – https://www.montre-cardio-gps.fr/carto-sur-une-montre-gps-garmin-installation-configuration-et-utilisation/#Toutes_les_cartes_compatibles_Garmin_disponibles_sur_Internet
MapRando is great, and available for many countries.

I generate maps for my 945 out from OSM. I have created a custom theme to be best looking on the limited screen and added highlights for hiking and cycling routes, so they are readily visible. Everyone with some Linux skills can repeat my process: https://github.com/darauble/Garmin-FR945
