Team GB – Track Bike for 2024 Olympics – a new aero Hope?

The new GB HOPE Track Bike has been unveiled for the Summer Olympics.

The image below shows the model from the last Olympics and, ignoring the cockpit, you can see broad similarities between the two.

2020/21 Version

Perhaps the biggest changes are at the front forks and set post. The seat post is integrated into the saddle and has two vertical sections to aid airflow. At the front, you can just make out a wavy trailing edge on the forks, again to aid airflow.

Other changes that I can spot include the unusual up-sloping top tube toward the headset area which is chunkier than before. The new seat stays also look wider.

British Cycling officially pointed out the new 3D-printed aluminium crankset and said the biggest improvements will come from an Integrated Design Philosophy ie ensuring that the performance of individual parts is considered in terms of their impact on other components and the system as a whole.

Take Out

These bikes have to be commercially available and if you want to buy one you’ll need to have £55,000 lying around. Yikes!

I wouldn’t call it a thing of beauty but I am hoping it will do the job for Team GB.
