  Power Meter Pedals (Need advice)
Posted by: jstpassaro - 03-12-2019, 08:54 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

So over the last year, I've been overhauling my bike. Last summer I got properly fitted, put some awesome HED wheels on (over my old DT Axis 2.0 stock set, which were uber heavy), and earlier this year changed out my tires to the Continental GP5000 (Mostly because of the 5krunner's review) and I'm currently overhauling my entire groupset (Piecemeal 10speed Shimano 105 to 11 speed R8000 Ultegra manual with a few Dura Ace parts).

I never invested in a power meter and now seems the best time to do so. As the title states, I'm not looking for a crank arm or install power meters, just pedals. I'm kind of torn here though. The new Vectors look great, but I've heard horror stories about them, Power tap just came out with a new model and then there's the Favero Assioma DUO which uses a different SPD-SL cleat than I'm used to using. What's the best version to look out for?

  Samsung Galaxy Active

https://www.samsung.com/us/explore/galaxy-watch-active/

I talked about this before, but there's a bunch of interesting things here that make it unique.

-Blood pressure on board
-5atm (50 meters waterproof) and military-grade durability and dust resistant.
-Weighs only 25g! The Forerunner 935 is 45g
-360x360 resolution which is nice.
-45 hours (about two days) lifespan, but, you can charge it from the back of the newest Samsung phones, and it's supposedly very fast to full charge (a little over an hour from 0%)
-.75GB of Ram, which is nice and 4GB of storage, which seems standard now on watches that come with storage
-Onboard Samsung Pay (but not MST tech)
-Lots of sports profiles, no info on external sensor support (BTS or ANT +) No info on sports metrics offered (Vo2 Max, etc...)
-Retail at $199

That last one, $200 is interesting as that undercuts ANY smartwatch with sports at its center in the market. Color me intrigued here. I have zero brand loyalty, but I am interested in what you can and can not do with it and how much training metrics in the watch correlate to my needs.

  V3.0.10 Firmware
Posted by: the5krunner - 02-11-2019, 04:54 PM - Forum: Polar Vantage V - Replies (14)

The new firmware (v3) is available now and has all the expected features.

https://the5krunner.com/2019/02/11/polar...19-update/

Also included are FAVORITES on the watch. Which is nice.

Regarding footpod usage (STRYD). Polar say this: "For footpod use, yes, all footpods should be default source for speed and distance (already in 2.0) and route comes from GPS"

I've not yet tried to test STRYD. Does everyone know if all is good when it comes to retaining the correct calibration

Checking battery level of Movesense Smart Sensor
Posted by: RiphRaph - 02-07-2019, 12:54 PM - Forum: Suunto Misc - Replies (1)

The Movescount app is currently displaying a couple of dashes where the percentage (presumably?) value for my HR sensor's battery should appear. Anyone know what this means? I've used the sensor for less than 20 hours (only bought it three weeks ago), so I'd be surprised if the battery was empty, and in any case it's still providing power as the watch is picking up a signal from the chest strap.

Can I set multiple alarms, i.e. five days a week at 5AM and two days at 7AM? and can I set the alarm to vibrating only?
Thank you

Metrics for laps are wrong in swimming and running
Posted by: exophunk - 01-30-2019, 12:49 PM - Forum: Polar Vantage M - No Replies

Hi everyone,

I saw others already discussed issues with automatic laps while swimming etc., I feel the lap functionality with manual laps on my Vantage is broken in every way.

I have 22 activities since december and I use the Lap button (Red button) fairly often to try to measure interval laps. I do this for running and swimming very often. I didn't count laps for cycling.

- Of 22 activities, I can't remember a single activity where laps shown in Polar Flow, Strava or Training Peaks are correct. Or even remotely close to correct.

Swimming:
Either there are no laps at all or a random amount of distances that I can't correlate with the times I pressed the lap button. Every activity is completely off.

In the activity below, I did several 100m splits, 4x250m splits and a 1000m time trial. I can't see any of this below.

(Besides that, Every single swim metric is wrong. Distance is wrong, swim style is wrong, average pace is completely wrong, number of strokes is wrong. I start to doubt if the watch actually is able to record "time" correctly. But this issues were mentioned in another thread already.)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/hsm0o5945geeaxw/Screenshot%202019-01-30%2013.50.12.jpg?dl=0

Running:
While the laps seem to actually exist (below, the high intensity splits do correctly start when I pressed the lap button), all the results were wrong. 8/9 laps show 0.0km distance, while the final lap shows some random 1.24km distance. The same nonsense gets exported to Strava and TP.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3e0cehuubq4rbv...9.jpg?dl=0

As the issues actually happens every single time – even 3 months and firmware updates after release – I wonder if my watch maybe has a hardware issue?

What are your experiences with laps?

  Switch between oHR and H10
Posted by: exophunk - 01-30-2019, 12:28 PM - Forum: Polar Vantage M - Replies (3)

Hi everyone,

Is there an option to switch between oHR and the external sensor? I usually do not wear the strap for weightlifting (at home). Unfortunately, the Vantage automatically connects with the H10, even when I am not wearing it and it is in another room. Of course, zero HR is then recorded. So the only options I have is to either wear the strap, move it down to the cellar (cause the bluetooth range is remarkable Big Grin) or unpair the sensor every time.

All of this options are not acceptable. How about pressing the "UP" button for 3 seconds or anything like that to switch between oHR and strap HR?

Is there a hidden option I dont know of?

Thanks,

Robert
