  How to operate COROS PACE?
Posted by: Lagunavic - 01-12-2019, 04:16 PM - Forum: PACE - Multisport - Replies (1)

I'm new to GPS tech and cannot find basic information to use my watch. I called COROS, searched online and employed my grandson to no avail. All sources assume that one knows the basics. The COROS tech said "once you get the download you just start messing around - you'll see. It's easy." I don't need all the features and training aids I just want to view current cadence, current minutes-per-mile and accumulated minutes-per-mile. I'll most likely want to expand my use in the future, but for now I'd like to set the watch up to monitor those three displays in a singular view. My TIMEX's give step by step instructions for the buttons - Isn't there a source for PACE basics? I've had it since Christmas and am considering sending it back. Any suggestions?

  Notifications not clearing
Posted by: PeterN - 01-07-2019, 06:46 PM - Forum: APEX - 42mm and 46mm - Replies (2)

I am using an Android phone with Apex 42mm. I am able to get notifications on my watch. But in order not to have my watch have that notification stay on my watch, I have to delete it from the watch itself.  Even if I delete (clear) the notification from my phone, it is still on my watch until I delete it there. Is this what other people are seeing?

I want the notifications on the watch and phone to stay synced. If the notification is cleared from the phone, it clears from the watch, and if it clears from the watch, it clears from the phone. This is how Garmin (Vivoactive 3) watches handle notifications.

  New HRM
Posted by: the5krunner - 01-05-2019, 08:22 PM - Forum: Garmin Accessories, Other - Replies (2)

looks like CES 2019 will see a new HRM of some sort. At least ANT+ and BLE but Garmin usually add more than one goodie at a time.

Android bluetooth Smart unlock connection possible?
Posted by: PeterN - 01-05-2019, 04:32 PM - Forum: APEX - 42mm and 46mm - Replies (2)

On Android phones, you can set up a connected bluetooth device to keep the phone unlocked when connected. I have used this with Garmin watches.

With the Apex, the app connects to the phone and it doesn't look like the phone's bluetooth manager knows about the watch. Does anyone know if there is a way to have the watch connect to the phone through the bluetooth manager?

Question oHR experiences on different sports
Posted by: naiboo - 01-04-2019, 05:00 PM - Forum: Polar Vantage V - No Replies

Can anyone tell their experiences on the oHR while doing different sports?

based on my experience of the oHR on the FR935 the accuracy is tied to the arm motion and shocks.

I had good results on road biking and running but it sucked at cross country skiing and roller skiing (i assume the oHR can´t handle the shocks of the poles/arms).

  Activity target
Posted by: zizoli21 - 01-04-2019, 12:59 PM - Forum: Polar Vantage M - Replies (1)

Good morning, I write to you because I bought the Polar vantage M. for about 10 days Before I used a Polar A360. However, an unexpected situation is occurring. Using the same activity target at level 2 as on the polar a360 and burning about (if not more) the same calories indicates to me a goal achievement that is about half of the previous one. I do not understand how it is possible. On the Polar A360 I easily reached 130-140% while with the same training with the Polar Vantage M I could barely reach 65%. Does something know the reason? thank you Elena

  The built-in ANT+ in Vantage V
Posted by: Fred - 01-03-2019, 04:47 PM - Forum: Polar Vantage V - Replies (9)

Why is not the built-in ANT+ enabled in the Vantage V yet?

DCRainmaker claims the hardware is there but Polar is not flipping the switch to turn it on. Will they? If so, when? Anyone got inside information or wants to speculate?

I do not want to buy the CABLE (ANT+ to BLE) gadget now and have to put it in a drawer.

oHR accuracy compared to Apple Watch
Posted by: skibikenrun - 12-30-2018, 08:26 PM - Forum: Polar Vantage M - Replies (15)

I want to state that I had ZERO bias to any watch. I so wanted to like the Polar and held out for it as it was my first oHR watch. I realize there is a vast majority that have zero issues with oHR and have acknowledged many times that I only wish I could see results like some have posted, but the fact is there are also a significant amount of users that have major issues, not just 1-5 beats off. And that was me. I see all the time people commenting how oHR does not work well on most watches, so use the strap but yet it works very very well for many Vantage users as well as other devices like the AW, which I am about to show.

This post is intended for those that specifically have issues with their oHR monitoring and are maybe on the fence with whether to keep their Vantage. I for one was not about to be complacent about an expensive watch where its main selling point(oHR) worked like crap for me.
Now I had relatively simple needs and what convinced me to originally purchase the Vantage was
1) Having a "next generation" wrist HR watch for daily HR monitoring and activity and not having to drag a strap with me everywhere I go.
2) Polar Flow.
Thats it, the rest were nice to haves.

I had no issue with the Vantages 24 hr heart monitoring and seemed to be pretty accurate. But any and I mean any activity, the oHR was a complete mess for me. Whether it was walking, biking or running, the HR spikes and inaccuracies (20-30 beats) made this watch completely unusable as an oHR. You will see in my pictures that being on a stationary bike with the wrist still, the spikes are not as dramatic as when running. Walking was a disaster as well. I read reviews and other users experiences and even some that tried exchanging the watch for another and still having the same issues, so decided to return the Vantage. Upon reading reviews from folks like DC Rainmaker that acknowledges the Apple oHR is superior, I thought Id give that watch a try. I initially never steered toward the AW as I didnt need all the other stuff that comes with it.

I will sum up my experience thus far.....the Apple oHR works flawlessly for me. I believe this is much more dramatic when comparing with users who have an issue with Polars. There are no crazy HR spikes and this thing tracks within 0-2 beats of my HR during activity. Every time I took a manual measurement, it was EXACT. The run was the exact same course, same pace and same conditions. You can see how nicely the AW HR responds to the grey Elevation profile in the background. Notice with how Polar, it actually responds oppositely! I have no doubt that the watch will also respond appropriately to interval training, weight training..everything. Its a thing of beauty to see a HR graph that is steady and doesnt have these wild spikes all over the show. Side Note I will tell you that after having that dim display, I have no issue having to charge it more often for the AW display.

Clearly, it seems as though Polars "next gen" oHR only works within a finer set of parameters and any persons body that doesnt fit within them, its not going to work well. Im wearing the AW no different than I wore my Polar and my skin tone or blood vessels have not changed Wink  I find this VERY disappointing from a company that really is touting a next gen oHR and really have to deal with so much less integration than what Apple has to in their watches. Apple is clearly in a league of their own when it comes to hardware and I realize its not quite the sportsmans watch but if accurate oHR is your main need, this was like a night and day comparison for me.

  OHR visibility for other devices?
Posted by: crb - 12-28-2018, 05:45 PM - Forum: Polar Vantage M - Replies (1)

Which devices can use vantage OHR readings?
I used M400 with a chest belt as a cycling computer mounted on  handle bar.  Now when I switched to vantage M, I had to wear watch on wrist to get HR reading. Clarity of display Is poor, small thin fonts are hard to read without lightening unless you display 2 or 3 information on screen. But m400 had much better readability.
Is there any cycling computer which can use OHR reading from vantage M? (OHR was one of the reasons I bought vantage)

If I had to use chest strap I prefer to replace watch for V800 which is more complete watch at the moment.
For same price I can have new v800 with H10 strap.
M400 worked very well for me as cycling computer.
