Garmin Fenix 6 New Confirmed *Features*

Sources say that the new Fenix 6 range will be formally announced 'at the end of the month' (Thu August 29). Online retailers will probably request your pre-orders knowing they won't get stock for a month (see the debacle over the 945 launch in some countries...not Garmin's fault, blame the retailers). #CheckFirst These are the models to expect: Fenix 6 (Sapphire and Pro - $599-$999), Fenix 6S ('Base', Sapphire and Pro - $599-$899) and Fenix 6X (Sapphire, Pro and the top-end Solar - $749-$1199) There are subtle changes to the watch face aesthetics when compared to the Fenix 5 and you can see all the variants with various kinds of bands here (appelmoessite.com). Naturally you will get the Sony GPS chip as well as the new ELEVATE oHR sensor. I have not had all the other details double-confirmed yet but I'm pretty sure that Fenix 5 (five) users might consider an upgrade to get these fancy new Firstbeat features which are for sure these: Training Load Focus – a breakdown of your total training load into different effort types combined with an indication to say how optimal this is for you. This is actually quite a nice little feature IMHO (based on 945 usage) Updated Activity Summary screen which includes a label that describes the primary benefit of your workout (recovery, endurance base, VO2max, lactate threshold, tempo, anaerobic threshold, and speed) and also reveals the specific number that corresponds to the Training Load contribution of your finished workout. This is actually quite a nice little feature IMHO (based on 945 usage) Race Time Predictions now fully use Firstbeat estimation methods that incorporate insights from trends in your Training Load, weekly mileage, and the presence of long runs in your training history. Other moedls tend to use VO2max fitness models and general references. GarminFirstbeat should be more accurate than those for most people. "Body Battery" combines All-day Stress data, physical activity, and the restorative power of sleep into a single, easily understood metaphor. Among other things you can instantly see when a bad night’s sleep or an unusually stressful day at work will make a hard workout less beneficial than normal. I don't really use this if I'm honest. Acclimatization tracking is introduced to take into account environmental factors. This shows how your physiology adapts to help you perform better in higher elevations or in ways that help you manage the effects of hotter, more humid climates. This information is also factored into the performance analytics (#cool), so that a decrease in performance capability attributable to your environment isn’t mistakenly attributed to unproductive training activities or poor recovery. Despite being 'very interesting', I don't really use it. Recovery Time estimates have been updated based on a bit more 'science'. This means adjustments are made based on your acute/chronic training load ratios and additional care is given to ensure adequate recovery after workouts that produced Training Effect scores that significantly exceed those of your normal training efforts. Just to be clear: the above info is correct and it is NOT from other published sources (although other published sources speculate on it). There is other info outstanding we need and it MIGHT include some fancy new software features over and above the features like GRADE ADJUSTED PACE that we've already heard about. So I'm unsure if this will materially improve the 24x7 wearability 'look' of the higher end Fenix models - it'll still be a low pixel density somewhat-dull screen. And that is disappointing as we are expecting an AMOLED super-bright screen to hit the Vivoactive 4 models The battery lives look awesome but, in the lower end models, GPS+Music still comes out as 'meh' but EMINENTLY USABLE nevertheless. The other specification details are not massively worthy of comment other than the SOLAR BATTERY, which will be some sort of generic top-up if you wear the F6XS outdoors all day. Another interesting point was made some time ago by GPSRUMORS/@LustyD in that the music feature is not now being specifically mentioned in the product name. BTW: some internal Garmin docs refer to the 945 as the 945M but this was perhaps the first music-enabled model to omit MUSIC from the name. Music is so 'standard' in the higher models that it seems like it is almost not worthy of mention. So the PRO version has MAPS+MUSIC(+WiFi) whereas the Sapphire version adds the better glass as well. The 6S Sapphire and 6 Sapphire are not really materially new variants. It's pretty much just the screen that's added on to the Pro. The following specifications are from Fitness Tracker. I don't have those verified as being fully correct but they look at least 'about right'. I've BOLDED the interesting bits, below.
