Romain Bardet holds the KOM for several of these but of course, that doesn't mean he's going to win. In fact (IMO), the smart money for the GC is on either Roglic or Bernal for victory as this is a very tough course, devoid of flat time-trials and described by some as 'excessively lumpy'. The hills will decide this and this post looks at specific STRAVA SEGMENTS that may prove decisive. Before I start here are some other useful references 2020 TdF Rider List Etape du Tour Route (not the pro route) And here's the full route map [caption id="attachment_53141" align="aligncenter" width="820"] Image | letour.fr[/caption] Stage 2 - Col d’Èze Segment Link This is the smallest categorized climb. Monsieur Bardet couldn't quite dip under 20 minutes for his KOM. Could you go under 30 minutes? [caption id="attachment_53142" align="aligncenter" width="1048"] to STRAVA[/caption] Stage 4 - Orcières-Merlette Segment Link The first summit finish which, according to STRAVA, has only been attempted 1,539 Attempts By 838 People [caption id="attachment_53143" align="aligncenter" width="975"] to STRAVA[/caption] Stage 6 - Mont Aigoual Segment Link With an average grade of 4% over 7.5km this is almost downhill. Yet the riders will have already been climbing for over 20 miles before they get to this point. [caption id="attachment_53144" align="aligncenter" width="1095"] to STRAVA[/caption] Stage 8 - Col de Menté Segment Link Warren Barguil is in third on this segment with 29:33. Let's see what 2020 brings for him. [caption id="attachment_53146" align="aligncenter" width="1227"] to STRAVA[/caption] Stage 8 - Col de Peyresourde Segment Link Romain Bardet once again KOM's this little hill perhaps best remembered for my legendary 2018 ascent where I beat a couple of mates who you've never heard of. History only remembers the winners, right? I seem to remember getting 'close' to Romain's time but regular readers here will know that my definition of 'imminent' and 'close' leave lots to be desired. [caption id="attachment_53147" align="aligncenter" width="1437"] to STRAVA[/caption] Stage 9 - Col de Marie-Blanque Segment Link Not included in the Tour since 2010 this is an unpleasant 8%er. [caption id="attachment_53148" align="aligncenter" width="1451"] to STRAVA[/caption] Stage 13 - Col de Ceyssat Segment Link I'm sure it's nothing and you can't read anything into these things but Rigoberto Uran aced this a couple of weeks ago. It's probably just a coincidence that Team EF Pro has bought up every advertising hoarding within a 2km radius (hint: they haven't). [caption id="attachment_53149" align="aligncenter" width="1304"] to STRAVA[/caption] Stage 17 - Col de la Madeleine Segment Link I always get this one confused with a mate's girlfriend who was also called Madeleine. The confusion is that both were devilish in their demands placed upon my unlucky friend. 1 hour at 8% average...ouch. [caption id="attachment_53150" align="aligncenter" width="1274"] to STRAVA[/caption] Stage 18 - Montée du Plateau des Glières Segment Link Thibaut Pinot likes the steep ones (6k @11%) and recently took the KOM. Watch out folks, you know what's coming. [caption id="attachment_53151" align="aligncenter" width="928"] to STRAVA[/caption] Stage 20 - La Planche des Belles Filles Segment Link This is only a 9%er, so no worries. Oh, none apart from the 23% slope at the end where even Chris Froome carried his bike up in 2012 (hint: he didn't, he won, you're thinking of that other hill in that other year) [caption id="attachment_53152" align="aligncenter" width="1048"] to STRAVA[/caption] Tour de France 2020 : Rider's STRAVA Profiles | Team Bike Profiles Source: strava AG2R LA MONDIALE Manufacturer: Eddy Merckx Road: Stockeu69 TT: EM25 Endurance model: N/A Time trial model: TBC Groupset: Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Wheels: Mavic Finishing Kit: Deda, Fizik, Vredestein tyres, Rotor, Mavic, KMC Romain Bardet François Bidard Mickaël Cherel Pierre Latour Oliver Naesen Nans Peter Aurélien Paret-Peintre Alexis Vuillermoz TEAM ARKÉA SAMSIC Road: Canyon Ultimate CF SLX, Canyon Aeroad CF SLX TT: Canyon Speedmax Groupset: Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Wheels: Shimano Finishing kit: Canyon, Selle Italia, Elite, Continental Winner Annacona Warren Barguil Romain Hardy Clément Russo Connor Swift ASTANA PRO TEAM Road: Wilier 0 SLR, Wilier Cento1air, Cento10NDR TT: Wilier Turbine Groupset: Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Wheels: Corima Finishing Kit: Garmin, Tacx, CermaicSpeed, Prologo, Look, Corima Alexey Lutsenko BAHRAIN MERIDA Road: Scultura Disc, Merida Reacto TT: Warp TT Groupset: Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Wheels: Vision Finishing Kit: Shimano, Continental, Prologo, Vision, Elite Damiano Caruso Sonny Colbrelli Marco Haller Wout Poels B&B HOTELS – VITAL CONCEPT P/B KTM KTM Revelator Alto Sonic, Revelator Lisse Sonic Groupset Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Wheels: DT Swiss Finishing kit: FSA, Prologo, Elite, FSA, Michelin Bryan Coquard Quentin Pacher Kevin Reza BORA – HANSGROHE S-Works Tarmac SL7 (?)
