More: Whoop 5 / MG Review

Will Ahmed, Founder & CEO of WHOOP, has revealed six major feature updates set to launch this year, promising to elevate our Whoop experience. Here’s a closer look at what’s coming.

Journal Trends

For those already tracking behaviours in the WHOOP app, you’ve likely noticed how these entries correlate with your performance and recovery metrics. The new Journal Trends feature will analyse these entries over extended periods, offering deeper insights. While it’s unclear whether WHOOP will focus solely on raw trends or tie them to long-term performance metrics, the latter seems likely, given WHOOP’s data-driven approach.

Enhanced User Profiles

Your WHOOP profile is about to get a notable makeover, resembling a dynamic social media feed. Expect visually engaging displays of your achievements, streaks, and personal records (PRs) over time, making your fitness journey both motivating and shareable.

Next-Level AI Coach

WHOOP’s AI Coach, already a leader in the fitness tech space, is getting even smarter. The updated version will deliver more personalised and intuitive guidance by recalling past interactions and preferences, helping you achieve your health goals more precisely.

Strength Training Trends

This feature will allow you to track progress across strength exercises, highlighting metrics like weight lifted, PRs, and improvements in reps and sets over time. Whether you’re a seasoned lifter or just starting out, this tool will provide a clear picture of your strength gains.

Advanced Labs

Slated for release in October, “Advanced Labs” will integrate biomarker blood test results—similar to those offered by competitors like Ultrahuman—directly into the WHOOP app. This feature aims to consolidate your health data, including various biomarkers, into a single place – probably a new tab in the app. While details remain sparse, WHOOP’s track record suggests something innovative is in store.

Healthspan with WHOOP Age

A favourite among WHOOP 5 users, the WHOOP Age feature is now rolling out to WHOOP 4 users starting today. This tool estimates your biological age based on health metrics. For example, my WHOOP Age is over seven years younger than my chronological age, reflecting my very good fitness level.

More to Come

Will Ahmed hinted at further features in the pipeline that he didn’t want to disclose yet. #Exciting

These updates signal WHOOP’s commitment to delivering value to the monthly subscription. Some companies sit back and just take the subscription money. Whoop seems to understand the need to deliver.

  1. I think you are over exaggerating the changes, there will be minor improvements in hardware as they will be newer versions of the same parts. I’m sure most, not all, will be software release.

This is a common theme to minimise changes to reduce the complexity

    1. depends on how you see it
      – let’s say that everything is different other than what can be seen on the outside….that’s a completely new hardware, 100% change, even if only the next version from the same component manufacturer
if you’re talking about what the new bits can do and the incremental improvement in features/capabilities
      – that is documented, and i agree it is a modest change.

  2. Another consideration: It is very possible that the circuit board (at a minimum) and (some of) the components change during the production run – and might even be different between different contract manufacturers.
Keep in mind that the Whoop 4.0 was sold for 4 years and Whoop supplied millions of units. It would not be unusual at all for the internals of the device to be changed to allow for lower production costs, for changing of components (e.g. for cost or availability reasons), switching/adding of manufacturing locations, etc.

    1. i’ve thought about this a few times, and initially thought the same as you
it seems sensible that components change
but then wouldn’t that invalidate the FCC certifications?

      1. FCC is mostly concerned about the (radio) emissions of the device and is especially strict if the device is intended to be a ‘transmitter’ (pretty much anything sport tech because of the BT/ANT/Wifi connectivity).
They are much more relaxed about the other parts/components of the device.

  3. A good start would be able to have something that actually reads your heart rate accurately while you’re cycling. I’ve been a whoop member since 2018 and I wear it every day but it’s a horrible heart rate monitor when used in sport they should already have come out with a strap that is proven to be more accurate and they could still make money off selling the strap, makes no sense to me that they haven’t already done this.

    1. It’s called a whoop biceps sleeve

I expect they will release a chest strap for sports at some point

  4. I got my whoop 10 months ago and have absolutely loved everything that it does and shows me about sleeping, exercise, etc. but I think I’m going to go ahead and cancel before my one year is up because otherwise started out with loop 2.0, each loop that I got a new one was sent to me free of charge because of an upgrade. They told me I have to pay for another year in advance to get the new loop and that goes against everything that they’ve said. So I’m skeptical about what is new and I don’t like that they can’t keep their word
