  1. Have other supporters noticed (last week or so) that the pop up ads have made a reappearance on the site when logged in as a supporter? It’s cross browser and platform too (PC chrome, iPhone and iPad safari).

      1. Yup, that seems to have fixed things. Almost like sports tech companies and software updates; fix one thing and break another 😉

  2. I randomly came upon a post on LinkedIn mentioning a company developing a sensor that monitors sweat and then gives you actionable info on your hydration and electrolyte levels. I don’t think I’ve seen tfk (or any other fitness tech blogger for that matter) cover this particular one before. The company is Flow Bio and if you go to flowbio.com there is some blurb about their flowpatch sensor, that’s intended to talk to platforms like Garmin, Polar, Apple, etc. Any thoughts?

    1. hey there Crispin, thank you,
they’re not selling yet. I’ll contact them and see what they are up to.

i recall a similar one quite a while ago which didn’t amount to anything but i’ve not heard mcuh about this sort of thing at all other than AURA Band (Apple) but they don’t seem interested in getting coverage here.

  3. I didn’t know where else to post this but Tredz.co.uk are matching Wiggles discount on the Garmin Tacx Neo 2 Special Edition, it’s on offer for £799 only Tredz are accepting other discount codes on the sale price as well. I brought one and used my Blue Light discount card for an extra 10% off. So, I got a brand-new Neo 2 SE with free delivery for £719.10 🙂 https://tidd.ly/3HrhDCJ

  4. Changes made to ad positions – should be better and slightly fewer
Changes made to litespeed cache…should now be faster
Changes made to home page number of posts and size of featured image, less posts but the home page should be much faster to load
Changes to LQIP images. All images should first immediately load as a low quality blur at the correct eventual size, stops the page jumping around and lets images you haven’t paged down to yet have more time to more gracefully load. ie improves interaction…
all this at a cost! thank you for your support

  5. The site is now getting hundreds of false user registrations per day.
In an attempt to reduce the impact of this, I have had to Enable reCAPTCHA on the login and user registration pages

reCAPTCHA v3 does not make users solve puzzles or click a checkbox like previous versions. The only visible part is the reCAPTCHA logo. If a visitor’s browser fails the CAPTCHA, Wordfence will send an email to the user’s address with a link they can click to verify that they are a user of the site.

  6. Today there are some fairly big changes behind the scenes that shouldn’t affect anything that you see. But, hey, it’s tech.

    1. Just like the desktop site is now completely AMP. This has stated incompatabilities with other software I use. The options of LEGACY and TRANSITIONAL-AMP also have incompatabilities. So I have gone all-in on what seems to produce the fastest user experience
    2. as per the previous point the site should now load in half the time.
    3. Behind the scenes I have updated some fundamental software called PHP to the latest version. This increases compatability options and lowers the load time for the site. No doubt it will break everything
    4. minor speed updates made to caches now enabling UCSS and UCSS inline plus some related features like GUEST MODE and JS Guest Mode Excludes (no, i’ve got no idea what that means either)
    5. The home page for mobile was changed with great difficulty to simply show a series of latest posts as tiles…like bbc.com. Hoever this then seemed to break everything and, in any case, didn’t work on Firefox mobile browser.
    6. My stats are completely broken
    7. The subscription management system is broken in terms of taking paypal payments. I have to do it manually.
    8. Table of contents may not work in some circumstances
    9. Reviews should now load even quicker with no right hand menu bar (kinda, with deliberate exceptions)

Bottom Line: the site should be just about as fast as it can be. But it might not work in places! Sorry

    1. for the last month some ads may have incorrectly shown to loggedin subscribers.
this should now be entirely corrected.
ie if you are an active subscriber you should see no ads anywhere
ie if you are a free follower you should see some ads but hopefulyl not too many (details/algorithm controlled by Google AdSense but i’ve turned down the ad display frequency on it)

anyone else…just become a free follower. you’re giving your log in details to wordpress.com and not to me! wordpress notifies you if there are new posts and that should be just about it. I don’t have time for the blog let alone to send you nefarious emails as well!
