QiCYCLE Air Compressor Mini Electric Bicycle Pump 150PSI/5000mAh (Model: QJCQBM1)
This is a fairly powerful, mini-pump suitable for any bike tyre…or even a car tyre.
It fully charges within 4 hours using a standard USB-C charger and is claimed to have enough juice to fill 5 car tyres. The valve is a clever dual-fitting Schrader and Presta. It’s good to fill 7 bike tyres up to 150psi with +/-0.1psi accuracy.
To use: Turn on, attach and digitally select your desired pressure in psi. Press the button to inflate to the desired pressure and the compressor cuts out when achieved.
The nozzle mechanism rotates through 360 degrees improving accessibility and ease-of-use.
Downsides
At 386g it’s simply too heavy for ME to carry when cycling.
Seems to report highly inaccurate pressure when used with a Schrader valve, presumably because the valve’s pin is not depressed by QiCycle adapter.
Notes
Car tyres require a large volume to be pumped but only to relatively trivial pressures usually 30-40ish psi
A bike tyre has a small volume but requires double or triple that pressure. Many smaller pumps will struggle at pressures over 80psi and quickly deplete their battery. Not the Qicycle.
Realistic Use Cases
On the rare occasions I need to pump up several bike tyres whilst in a car park, this will be great. Sure I’ll probably have access to a track pump but this is WAY easier.
Similarly, in the rarer event that my car tyre needs some emergency air, this will be great.
Performance-orientated cyclists will never carry one of these when on the road. However, family cyclists, group cyclists or even off-roaders who frequently change tyre and suspension pressures might like this.
I’m probably going to leave this in the boot of my car for emergencies.
Alternatives
Instead of a hand pump for road cycling, I like the CYCPLUS Cube. It’s super light. But it’s not ideal either. It just about inflates one bike tyre to high pressure before struggling to get higher then running out of juice entirely. It’s good for that one emergency and saves time, making you the hero when a mate needs to fix a puncture. Two emergencies?…you’re stuffed.
On the other hand, the QiCycle will have a good shot at inflating the tyres of an entire TdF team (and their support vehicle). Kinda 🙂
the CYCPLUS CUBE Review – battery power pump useful but not perfect for all cyclists
Take Out
I feel QiCycle didn’t quite understand the needs of the market they target with this product. Or maybe they just sent it to the wrong kind of cyclist! (Me)
It’s not small, it’s not light and the cutout pressure is wrong with Schrader valves. But it does have its uses and covers you for multiple emergencies.
