Garmin Tactix 7 AMOLED – Key Features

The Tactix 7 AMOLED sports an excellent 1.4-inch AMOLED display that’s easy to read even in bright sunlight. Notably, the display can be dimmed to an extremely low brightness level for situations where staying hidden is crucial. In normal usage, we can see that Garmin has introduced an excellent-looking watch face.

The new Night Vision Goggle mode builds on the white/green flashlight from the earlier model, adding a dimmable green flashlight to preserve natural night vision while providing essential, localised illumination.

The latest gen 5 Garmin optical heart rate sensor replaces and slightly improves upon the accuracy of the previous model. This is now one of the better optical HR sensors on the market

Another feature taken from other Fenix models is added to improve nighttime visibility. Red Shift Mode helps reduce sleep disturbances and also blocks light colours that restrict pupil dilation.

Naturally, the Tactix is about as rugged as it gets, meeting military standard MIL-STD-810 for thermal, shock, and water resistance to ATM10. these characteristics are good but no better than on other Fenix watches. The watch’s durability is further improved by design elements including button guards with reinforced metal lugs, a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, a carbon grey DLC (diamond-like coating) titanium bezel, fibre-reinforced polymer housing, titanium rear cover, and black tactical nylon QuickFit bands.

With an impressive battery life of up to 31 days, this smartwatch remains operational even during extended missions.

  • Smartwatch: Up to 31 days (11 days always-on)
  • Battery Saver Watch Mode: Up to 41 days
  • GPS Only: Up to 82 hours (58 hours always-on)
  • All Satellite Systems: Up to 62 hours (48 hours always-on)
  • All Satellite Systems + Multi-band: Up to 38 hours (30 hours always-on)
  • All Satellite Systems + Music: Up to 17 hours
  • Max Battery GPS: Up to 145 hours
  • Expedition GPS: Up to 27 days

Practical Features

In addition to the NVG mode, flashlight modes and dimmable display, in sensitive locations, you can activate Stealth Mode to disable wireless communications while still collecting vital data, all without recording location information. Hence you can upload location data without revealing your whereabouts.

Enhanced Training and Health Support

This GPS smartwatch includes a raft of Garmin’s 24/7 health and wellness tools like Pulse Ox, wrist-based heart rate monitoring, respiration tracking, and stress tracking. More unusual and unique features are wellness insights such as Garmin’s Body Battery, Fitness Age, Morning Report, and Sleep Score with Advanced Sleep Monitoring.

You can also be sure that Garmin will have included the ‘sports’ activities you’ll need like like hunting, mountain climbing, and strength training. But even more of Garmin’s new features are now included like your Endurance Score, Hill Score and wrist-based Running Power.

Aviation

Tactix delivers access to aviation weather information, including NEXRAD radar, METARs, and TAFs, all viewable on the smartwatch. Added to that, both civilian and military aviators will use the Direct-To-Navigation feature, enabling navigation directly to any airport in the world using and aeronautical database or a path to the nearest airport.

During airborne operations, the Jumpmaster feature supports HAHO, HALO, and Static jumps. In dual-positioning mode, it simultaneously displays two coordinate systems, such as MGRS and latitude/longitude, on a single data screen.

Global Navigation

Tactix has the latest multi-band GPS. The new generation of Airoha chips that Garmin uses is probably the most accurate from any watch vendor, with the added advantage that Garmin has the most resources to invest in building accuracy and navigation features around the excellence of the raw positional data from this chipset.

The watch comes preloaded with TopoActive maps, Public Land Boundaries Maps, SkiViewTM Maps, and access to over 43,000 full-color golf courses worldwide. Furthermore, it is compatible with Garmin’s Outdoor Maps+ service, offering premium mapping content like Satellite Imagery, State Plat Maps, Hunting Units, and more.

Garmin Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition is available globally and with a US MRSP of $1,399.99.

Take Out

An excellent watch, at the pinnacle of what Garmin offers in 2023.
