FORM Goggles - Introduces Live Swimming Dynamics. This is a great and unexpected move from the people at FORM Swimming Goggles. These augmented reality goggles have already nailed basic performance metrics whilst swimming and wrapped that in a nice package of planned workouts. Today sees the addition of swimming dynamics ie metrics which help score the efficiency of your technique. Similar metrics are available for runners and cyclists but tend to not be too useful. For swimming it's different as it's a highly technical sport and significant technical improvements can be relatively easy to achieve...if you know where to look. FORM's new HeadCoach starts to tell you where to look. During and after a swim, HeadCoach provides swimmers with technique feedback using two types of metrics: FORM Score and HeadCoach Skills. HeadCoach Skills encompasses five key areas that will help swimmers identify where to focus on improving their efficiency: head roll, head pitch, set pacing, interval pacing, and breathing time-to-neutral. Hopefully, the onboard accelerometer is responsive enough for the job but the ultra-low resolution screen is really struggling to stay relevant in 2023. I'm surprised that they managed to be able to adapt its display abilities to handle technique-based metrics but it has...check out the centre area from the images below. One unfair criticism of FORM would be that these metrics are pretty much focused on head position and SWOLF-type metrics. but hey, those are both pretty important, right? It's a few years old now but was pretty awesome when I tried it a few years back in the early Covid years. As it's based on the wrist it can track things like hand-entry and movement during the pull.
