Wahoo – Permanent Price cuts – Immediate Effect
The writing has been on the walls for two years now and that writing said, “The indoor bike training market is highly competitive and premium prices are difficult to sustain.” Perhaps more eloquently, Wahoo phrased it thus
Wahoo is committed to increasing customer value, by offering a market leading range of indoor cycling products that meet all types of customer needs and price points. By reducing prices across the KICKR range, we are looking to grow the market by encouraging more people to gain the benefits of riding and training indoors. This move is part of our ongoing mission to build a better athlete in all of us [C Eustace, Wahoo Chief Sales & Marketing Officer]
This price move positions Wahoo for the indoor training season and sets expectations for Black Friday and Christmas pricing. Whilst the move is primarily in response to great value budget options from competitors, it also poses interesting questions for Garmin, not known for permanent price reductions of any kind to its first-tier products.

Take Out
A permanent reduction by about 15%-20%, what’s not to like?
Whens the new super bike computer coming ?
Takeout. Wahoo is in trouble. period period period
In my opinion, this particular action is just a response to the competition and market realities
These prices are simply reasonable responses to increased price pressure. The CORE only coming down to $500 shows they still have faith that branding means they don’t need to go tit-for-tat and match the JetBlack Victory pricing.
Had Wahoo lowered the CORE to $400 or below, THAT, would be a sign they were in trouble.
I think the realities are that they had a watch and had to dump it, they have a treadmill that was supposed to ship in June and it’s still on pre-order (and way overpriced for most folks), the smart trainer market is saturated, they had to shut down RTG a year ago, and they haven’t released a new bike computer in two years while all their competitors have. The market realities are that nothing in the US is getting cheaper and Wahoo can’t compete with Hammerhead and Garmin. They’re hemorrhaging money and it may not be long. A drop in price is not a good sign. They have historically had a cash problem and this signals that they are desperate.
ty for the update on the treadmill, I had it on my todo list of things to chase up, being in the UK I wasn’t expecting anything until 2025.

Except for smart trainers…
