Garmin Peloton Sync: Two-Way Workout Link Goes Live

Peloton and Garmin Complete Two-Way Workout Sync

Peloton and Garmin have completed linking their fitness platforms, enabling customers to synchronise workout data in both directions between the Peloton app and Garmin Connect. The update, which went live in the first week of March 2026, closes a gap that had frustrated members of both ecosystems since the partnership was first announced.

Update: 16 March 2026 – Incline data is also included in the sync

How the Integration Developed

The two companies launched their initial link in late 2025. The official workout sync between Garmin Connect and Peloton went live in November 2025, with the integration limited to a one-way synchronisation: outdoor runs and activities recorded on Garmin devices would count toward Peloton challenges and milestones, but Peloton workouts did not automatically sync back to Garmin Connect.

That limitation left a significant gap for anyone using Garmin Connect as their primary training hub. Many customers turned to third-party services such as SyncMyWorkout to bridge the gap — tools that became popular precisely because there was no native way to push Peloton sessions into Garmin Connect.

After a period of minimal integration, Garmin enabled syncing Peloton workouts into the Garmin Connect platform in March 2026. Completed Peloton workouts now appear natively in Garmin Connect and count toward Garmin metrics, including Training Status, Recovery Time, and Training Load. This is unusual as Garmin rarely allows externally completed workouts to automatically enter its ecosystem – another exception being Zwift.

What the Sync Covers

The new sync covers every Peloton workout type: cycling, running, walking, rowing, strength, yoga, stretching, cardio, meditation, and all bootcamp formats — bike, tread, and row. Customers can choose to sync all workout types or limit the export to specific categories.

Several metrics are integrated into the synced data, including cadence, calories burned, distance, power (in watts), heart rate, and speed. The name of the class instructor is also included.

Some Peloton-specific data does not make the transfer. Incline data from treadmill sessions is not currently included in the activity file that lands in Garmin Connect. Minor discrepancies in calorie calculations between the two platforms inevitably exist due to different calculation methods.

One important note: double workouts will occur in Garmin Connect if you also record the workout on a Garmin device. This will also double the distance, time, calories, and activity minutes in totals/display. Don’t record with your Garmin device if this sync is enabled.

The feature is not locked behind the Garmin Connect+ subscription service. No Peloton paywall applies either: the sync is available to any customer running the latest version of the Peloton app on iOS or Android.

How to Enable the Sync

The sync is enabled in the settings section of the Peloton app. Navigate to your profile at the bottom right, select the menu icon at the top right, then choose Connected Apps & Devices. Under the Apps section, select Garmin Connect. A new toggle — Send To Garmin Connect — controls the export of completed Peloton workouts. The two sync directions operate independently: enable one or both.

Commercial Significance

The partnership is complementary in some ways but favours Peloton. Despite its unprofitability, Peloton dominates the structured indoor class market; Garmin’s profitability derives from its strength in outdoor endurance, GPS hardware, and the breadth and depth of its training analytics platform. The integration allows each company to address shared customers’ needs for a unified view(s) of activity.

For Peloton, the practical benefit is retention. Peloton workouts can now feed into metrics like Training Load, Recovery Time, Training Readiness, and individual Training Effect calculations. This makes sense. A Peloton owner might want to see the physiological effects of their activity throughout the day – you can see that on a Garmin watch on your wrist far more easily than logging into a static Peloton smartphone app.

For Garmin, the integration improves the accuracy and completeness of Garmin Connect as a training record. Garmin’s recovery and readiness calculations depend on a complete view of training load.

  1. I think they may have added incline now. I did a walk this morning on the Tread+ and it included the total ascent in the Garmin workout.
