Hi,

Just found your site and am enjoying looking around.

Trying to choose between Garmin FR620 and Tomtom Multisport Cardio. I can get a deal on the Garmin that brings it to a similar price. Interested in the running dynamics but not sure how much use it will be to me as a relative beginner. Also interested in running without a chest strap too.

At the moment I mostly run but am hoping to learn to swim in the new year so that functionality might be something of interest. Although not a deal breaker.

Can anyone help sway me one way or the other?

🙂 you have correctly highlighted the differences. Unfortunately it’s up to you to choose the features that YOU best want. We are all different in what we need. the garmin is the best of it’s kind. the tomtom is innovative and unique but not the ‘best’ triathlon watch. sorry I can’t help you nail it down. they are both good tho.

I think I have worked out a third way 🙂

I’m going to buy the FR620 from my friend that can do a deal. Use the HR strap for training to try to improve my technique and see how I get on with it.

Also going to save to buy a Mio Fuse to use for wrist based heart rate monitoring and step counting and what not. I will also keep an eye on the Tomtom as the bugs get ironed out.

I have also considered the 920XT but it looks pretty large and seems like massive overkill.

Thanks for taking the time to listen.
