Wahoo 100% Fixed – except the bits that aren’t, instructions issued for that.
On August 26, Wahoo released a final fix for ELEMNT Gen 1, adding to the fixes to ROAM 1 and BOLT 1 from 3 days earlier. These fixes addressed the GPS bug affecting first-generation ELEMNT, BOLT, and ROAM bike computers. That’s the good news.
The bad news is that Wahoo has stopped there and issued instructions on dealing with rides you’ve already recorded that might be recorded on the wrong day in the wrong place.
What to look for
Update your firmware as usual and check that you get these versions. Then you are good to ride today:
- BOLT 1 – WB17 – 17055
- ROAM 1 – WR24 – 17055
- ELEMNT – WE/WF 53 – 17055
What Next?
Wahoo states that the firmware update will not change or recover any rides completed between August 17 and when it is updated. It gives the following information on recovering or changing ride dates:
In brief
- locate the file in your ELEMNT app and email it to yourself
- Adjust the file datestamp manually at: https://www.fitfiletools.com/ (look for the time adjuster feature)
- Email it to yourself again on your phone to upload into an app or load manually into Strava or your other platforms
- Wahoo states, “That file may still exhibit speed or location data errors due to the GPS time issue. If so, there is no way to resolve these after the fact.” You might, in some cases, be able to edit FIT Files using the Fit File Repair Tool, which can identify and remove bad GPS segments and do many other kinds of advanced fixes. I wouldn’t be too hopeful. I used to offer a FIT file fixing service, but no one needs that any more as garmin implemented proper ride recovery a few years ago. At least they didn’t need it until now!
