Site Down Apology: Cloudflare Crash Causes Widespread Outage

Site down – Sorry

Apologies for the site downtime earlier today. Apparently, half the internet was in the same situation as me when Cloudflare crashed.

An upgrade to Cloudflare was one of my tech highlights of the year. At least it was until today. I supposedly had the option to have the entire site fall back to the Internet Archive if Cloudflare didn’t work. Needless to say, that option didn’t work…just like Cloudflare.

I use Cloudflare as an intermediate cache between my true (origin) server and you. The intermediate cache (Edge cache) is globally distributed at multiple points and also temporarily hosts all my images in exactly the right size nd version for your request (except when it doesn’t work – webp).

#sigh.
