Expert opinion

H9 shares its pod with the H10 and differs only in strap and connection count. Polar has said the strap, not the electronics, accounts for the accuracy difference between the two: the H10’s PRO strap carries an additional electrode strip and silicone grip dots that the H9’s SOFT strap lacks. The pods are interchangeable between straps from either model.

H9 supports one active Bluetooth Smart connection at a time, against two on the H10, and cannot cache a workout at all; the H10 caches a single session via the Polar Beat app. Both share ANT+ compatibility and 5kHz GymLink for live underwater transmission to a paired Polar watch. Like the H10, the H9 or H7 is required for Polar’s orthostatic test; other HRV-capable Bluetooth chest straps will not work for that protocol.

H9 versus H10

  • H9 supports one simultaneous Bluetooth Smart connection; H10 supports two
  • H9 cannot cache a workout; H10 caches one session, up to 65 hours, via the Polar Beat app
  • H9 uses the older Polar SOFT strap, carried over from the H7; H10 uses the newer PRO strap with additional electrodes and silicone grip dots
  • H9’s SOFT strap has a simpler, easier-to-use clip mechanism than the H10’s PRO strap
  • Both share the same pod, the same ECG sensor, ANT+ compatibility and 5kHz GymLink
  • H9 is priced below the H10 at launch and at current RRP
