Trim a FIT File or Cut Out a Section

Forgot to stop your watch, or left it running on the train home? Mark the part you want on the chart and either keep it or cut it out. Distance, time, averages and laps are recalculated to match.

Two ways to trim

  • Keep the marked part: removes the start and end, such as the warm-up walk or the drive home.
  • Cut the marked part out: removes a section from the middle, such as a café stop with the watch still recording or GPS drift indoors. The gap counts as a pause, so moving time and averages leave it out.

How to use it

Drop in your file, drag the two handles on the chart, and watch the route outline show what you are keeping. Press Apply, then download the new file and upload it in place of the original.

Quick answers

Will trimming change my personal records?
Apps recalculate records from the uploaded file, so a run trimmed to remove the drive home no longer carries an impossible fastest kilometre.

Can I trim a file that will not upload?
Run it through the repair tool first, then trim the repaired file.

More free tools for your activity files are on the FIT file tools page.
