Here are the first Garmin Forerunner 945 images and they shed a lot of light on what we can expect from its new features.
Most obviously the format is a round watch despite there being rumours of resurgence of the rectangular format. Disappointing but entirely expected.
Also as expected we clearly have MUSIC and MAPS on the screens. We earlier confirmed the inclusion of Garmin PAY (here) .

The first of the blue standalone images also shows a new Firstbeat feature which was already sneaked into the MARQ to very little fanfare.
The MARQ also included other FIrstbeat features and it’s reasonably likely that the 934 will get these too.
You can see from the MARQ image to the right that there are new data fields too, Again I would expect these to be in the 945.
If I had to guess at a new feature for the 945 it would be for auto-transition support (T1+T2) which we have seen already in a limited way for swim-run multi-sport workout.
My understanding is that the announcement is not set for a few more days yet.
Opinion
I have already warned AMEX that I am going to personally boost Garmin’s share price as soon as this comes out (Edge 830 and FR245 as well). The more I’ve used MUSIC and PAY on other devices the more I want it on my soon-to-be upgraded 935. So I’m definitely going to welcome these non-tri feature additions.
I tend not to use maps too much but on the occasions I end up following breadcrumb trails I kinda wish I wasn’t and that I had a real map #soon
The 945 will probably be a tad lighter than the 935 but I don’t think that matters too much.
What’s more exciting will be the improved spec. I think we will see the Sony GNSS chipset and a little longer battery life couple that with a faster processor and I’ll be happy with and increase in speed to my CIQ apps. The new firstbeat features will definitely be a nice to have but I am hoping for some genuinely useful tri-training-specific features to be added in addition to auto transtition such as POI proximity driven laps, although I’m not holding my breath.

Perfect timing. I just sold my 935 a few days ago.. now I’m using my old trusty FR410 until the 945 is finally out.
A just don’t understand why they don’t get the same resolution then the Apple Watch ??!!!! ….. a know it’s maybe about battery …. it’s feel like an old phone :/ !! Another question is it just for runners or it can be used for others sport ( strength ! !!
battery
The Apple Watch screen is off most of the time. Plus the Garmin screen is much easier to read in direct sunlight. Garmin is a sports watch first and a smart watch second. Battery life matters. Just stick with the Apple Watch if the screen is important to you above all else.
Mmmm …. a suppose we can’t have everything…. am not a big fan of the Apple Watch ….a was searching for sport watch with a excellent HR …. and apple did a big job on there :p !! Probably gonna wait a little and see what’s coming
i reviewed the aw recently and the latest version was a nice step forwards in hardware with the ohr and cheaty-GPS. it’ll probably never be what a pure athlete watnts but is prob only 2 iterations away from one that will appeal to even more serious athletes
The best bit?! It looks just like a 935, so the wife won’t notice!! 😂🤣
that must be an argument to get an unusual quickfit strap. change that between watches…voila! most people would only notice the strap/
but very good point
resale value of 935 should be ok. so sell that and claim it only cost £200.
Read my mind!! I’ve got a a couple of quite bright straps – she’ll never know!! Haha hahaha! 🤣😂👌
Hello.
Add that probably it’ll has too the new ELEVATE sensor as the previous leaks of the 245 Music show ; )
I wrote a post two days ago in our forum (use a translator):

Assuming four of them are 245, 245 Music, 945 and 945 Music … There is still a fifth mysterious watch whose declassification date is even closer. Is the IPH-03671 … it looks like a one-button watch, with touch screen and no wi-fi. It should arrive before 2019-5-16.
https://fccid.io/IPH-03671
Do you know which one is that watch? ; )
With all of them really close not sure if Garmin could do a mega-event to make a lot of noise instead of release them each few days or weeks…
Regards
Or perhaps is the FR 45, Garmin some times seems to fail with the labels…
fr45
vivomove
03671 is a revision?
945music nad 945…i assumed only one
If the label is right perhaps is a Vivoactive revision. In any case we don’t have to wait a lot to watch its photos as the 2019-5-17 will be public.
I’ll love to watch a 945 titanium with sapphire crystal version, like the Fenix and Marq series have. But sure that i’ll be out of luck… :” (
you will!
tho i did think about a ceramic case to make it even lighter. there’s a non garmin couple up in next 4 weeks that i have something to say on in that regard. it’s on my wrist now
Ohhh
You made my day! I’ll wait patiently to your news. My body is ready for this summer hahaha
Thank you very much.

what did you find in that? apac version?
Anyone else notice the phone icon and wonder about a LTE connected version of the 945?
prob not lte. just ble music sync from smartphone when out of wifi range..i could be wrong!
Any idea on release date?
I’m there, this is the product I’ve been waiting to upgrade an old Vivoactive “Prime”.
You can turn HRM off on these devices, right? I would rather not have HR constantly being monitored and using battery life, and I use an external HRM in workouts anyway.
hel yes!
I wouldn’t use oHRM from anyone. for my purposes
i’m hearing NOT next week. but i hear a lot of things.
it’s obviosuly close. ned of may at very very latest
ups, the answer is above : )
So slightly updated hardware vs. the Fenix 5 Plus, but no significant added features.
true, yet i’ll still get one!
but you never know. I hope garmin give us atri feature surprise
ithink i said in my 5s plus review that the 5s plus was probably on a par with the 935 for practical tri ness. IIRC just the battery and a few mm in size made a difference.
It’s going to be the MARQ with a FORERUNNER shell with maybe half the storage. It’s not the F5+ line in plastic.
I got this confirmed by a rep that it is coming, but as it was said to me, the 45 and 245 will be coming together and the 945 later? Didn’t specify a date or even if that is the case (they may be all are coming together).
All that confirmed is they are real, and they are coming, that’s it.

I can’t understand chinese….
😉
try an emoticon. They’re the same the world over.
So with Clever Training just whacking £100 off the Fenix 5 and the London Marathon expo opening Wednesday whats the chances of the 945 being announced and on sale there?
Interesting theory Taff, we can hope!!
with clever training leaking the 45 and 45S online i guess that will be first.
my thinking actually is one big launch of the revamped forerunner range. that was rumoured last year in any case but i just took as bveing a triathlon relaunch.
so i think we will see all at the same time.
i dont think it will be this week because of people being on holiday. but could be wrong. maybe that is a reason TO do it.
The next 5krunner blog should feature a definition or two about the term IMMINENT. The 945 has now been IMMINENT for months. Anyway, not at all interested in storing music on, or being able to pay for my groceries with this rumored device. Pity Garmin is heading away from the ‘serious’ runner direction with these latest watches. The next model will probably allow you to update your Facebook page and order takeaway meals whilst ‘on the run’. I would have loved to see a new square faced watch like my 920XT. There is a reason why computer and television screens are not round. Also really dislike the charging mechanism on the Garmin 935 compared to the 920XT clip-in mechanism.
I hear ya!
imminent means “about to happen”. Launches were originally planned for Jan2019 by Garmin of some of these devices. so the word is being used correctly but life changes
iagree with you
it’s worse than you think. the next models will probably have voice control “OK Garmin, take a lap”…maybe 😉
anyway…945 is next week, probably monday. that’s imminent
Of course the launch remains IMMINENT. It will most definitely be a Monday, maybe a Tuesday or Wednesday. If not released at the start of a week, a Thursday, a Friday or during a particular weekend? April, May or June, who knows and let’s not quibble about the year. The main thing is to keep these ‘leaks’ and rumors going. The last I heard was the shape of the 945 being oval and the watch having the capacity to measure the curvature of nasal hair and that data being instantly uploaded to one’s Twitter site.
I sense an element of cynicism 😉 which I will take with good humour. I did try to reserve imminent.co.uk but it had been taken.
The speculation here about the future interests me and some other people too. It’s not for everyone.
The Garmin reviews/opinions here are done by me with no link to the company whatsoever…I don’t even get press releases.
The announcement date for the 945 is Tuesday 30th April. It will probably be either 11:00 or 12:00 C.E.T.
Hopefully that is imminent enough for you.
You can choose to be spoonfed by what companies want you to hear through the usual channels.
