Expert opinion

The T-Rex 3 is a rugged outdoor smartwatch with military-grade durability, excellent battery life, offline maps, and dependable navigation. Its AMOLED touchscreen is notably smooth compared with competitors, and the interface is intuitive.

GPS scored 85% on the standard 10-mile test, good by 2024 standards but not class-leading. Optical heart rate requires a chest strap for reliable zone training, and running power read consistently high in testing. Loading GPX routes is cumbersome, with no built-in links to Strava, Komoot or Ride with GPS. The lens is Gorilla Glass rather than sapphire, protected by a raised bezel.

The 700 mAh cell charges via a magnetic base in around three hours. GNSS Long Battery Life and Max Battery Life work only within Hiking and Climbing modes. A USB-C cable is required and not supplied.
