Expert opinion

The Garmin Edge 550 carries Garmin’s latest training, navigation, and performance features without a touchscreen. It has a bright, high-resolution display, multi-band GPS, and the same mapping and training metrics as the Edge 850, in a button-only interface that stays reliable in wet or muddy conditions.

Menu navigation is slower via buttons than on the touchscreen-equipped Edge 850, and the brighter display cuts battery life below the previous Edge 540’s. Riders who adjust settings frequently mid-ride may find the 850’s touchscreen worth the extra cost.
