Garmin’s New Features For Q2 2026: Do You Miss Out
Garmin has published your new set of Q2 2026 features for smartwatches and Edge cycling computers. You should be able to grab them now. The official update document makes clear which watches are in line for new capabilities and which miss out.
What we got last quarter – Q1 2026
Q1 gave us recovery, health-tracking, and lifestyle tools across the current watch range, with the Instinct 3 family picking up the bulk of the new additions. Q2 extends that and adds two new categories: golf and cycling.
What’s new in Q2 2026
Six new features arrive for watches this quarter, with two more for Edge cycling computers. Here’s the rub that long-suffering Garmin owners will be expecting – not every watch gets them.
For watches:
- Recovery Mode
- Health Status History
- Mobility Activity
- Approach CT1 golf tag compatibility
- Premium Golf Features (via Golf Membership)
- Stocks Tracker

The Venu X1 and Venu 4 group get everything. The Forerunner 570 and 970 get five of the six, missing only Stocks Tracker. The Fenix 8 family gets four, with CT1 compatibility excluded on the Fenix E. The Instinct 3 and Instinct Crossover AMOLED get three.
For Edge cycling computers:
- On-device gear tracking: assign and edit your full bike setup directly on the Edge, covering drivetrain, wheels, tyres, and even cycling shoe cleats, with on-screen wear progress bars and end-of-life alerts via Garmin Connect
- Bosch eBike smart system compatibility: battery status, smart range routing, power and cadence data displayed on supported Edge computers
All current Edge computers receive both cycling additions.

Why older watches miss out
The Venu 3, vivoactive 5, Forerunner 265, Forerunner 965, and the entire fenix 7 range do not appear in the Q2 update. Some of those watches are under two years old, and none of them is cheap. Yikes.
Garmin has not explained the cut-off. The fob-off is usually that older watches were built on different hardware and software, and thus cannot easily adopt new capabilities. That’s a real excuse, but it’s still an excuse. Stocks Tracker? Is that a super complex new feature? A: No, it’s a simple number display.
It’s a commercial excuse to start to get you thinking about an upgrade after two years of ownership. Garmin wants your money.
The update begins rolling out on 2 June. Enable automatic updates on your watch or Edge to receive it.
What’s coming in H2 2026
Several new hardware launches are close. The Edge 1060/Edge 1050 Solar has likely got regulatory approval in the UAE and Malaysia, putting a summer launch within reach. The MARQ Gen 3 is signalled by the first price cut on the Gen 2 range since its 2022 launch. CIRQA, Garmin’s screenless activity tracker, remains close, with Connect+ discount codes now live as part of the ecosystem build. A Fenix 9 in late 2026 is early speculation, nothing confirmed. Full details are in the Garmin Release Radar.
FAQ
Will older watches like the Forerunner 265 or fenix 7 get these features later?
Garmin has not confirmed whether the watches absent from the Q2 list will receive these features in a later update cycle or miss them entirely. Based on the pattern from Q1 2025, where the fenix 7 range was similarly absent, a delayed rollout is possible for some features but not guaranteed.
Does the Q2 update cost anything?
No. Garmin’s quarterly feature updates are free. Enable automatic updates on your watch or Edge, or update manually via Garmin Express or the Garmin Connect app.
Which Edge computers get the Bosch eBike compatibility?
The Edge MTB, Edge 540, 840, 1040, 550, 850, and 1050 all receive Bosch eBike smart system compatibility in the Q2 update. Older Edge models do not appear in the update document.
