Expert opinion
The Instinct 3 AMOLED delivers the display quality the Instinct line has long needed, and the metal-reinforced bezel is a genuine durability step up. The absence of onboard maps is difficult to reconcile with the price: at $449.99 for the 45 mm, the gap to the Fenix 8 has narrowed considerably.
The AMOLED display is the first colour display in the Instinct line. Despite the AMOLED panel, the watch has no touchscreen; all navigation is by the five-button layout. Both sizes carry multi-band dual-frequency GNSS with SatIQ, Garmin Pay, Training Load Focus and Training Readiness. The 45 mm (medium) gives 18 days of smartwatch battery life; the 50 mm (large) extends that to 24 days.

- Built-in LED flashlight with variable intensities, red light and strobe mode: standard on both sizes; previously exclusive to the Instinct 2X Solar
- Multi-band dual-frequency GNSS with SatIQ standard on all models: previously exclusive to the Instinct 2X Solar
