Expert opinion
The Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro is an evolutionary update rather than a major redesign, retaining its predecessor’s titanium alloy case, nanocrystal ceramic rear cover, sapphire glass and ECG sensor while concentrating on software and sports-tracking refinements. New features include enhanced skiing modes with turn count and G-force analysis, upgraded golf tools with detailed course overlays and an auto-rotating green view, AI-assisted cycling climb analysis, and expanded health research programmes developed in partnership with Chinese medical institutions. Combined with 40-metre freediving support and up to 21 days of battery life under light use, the GT 7 Pro remains one of the most capable endurance-focused smartwatches outside the Garmin ecosystem.
Huawei’s software ecosystem continues to be the watch’s biggest drawback. Android users must install Huawei Health through AppGallery or a standalone APK because the app is unavailable on the Google Play Store, while syncing workouts to services such as Strava, TrainingPeaks and Apple Health still depends on third-party tools like Health Sync rather than native integrations. Although functional, this approach can occasionally omit activity data that transfers seamlessly from Garmin or Wahoo devices. Huawei Health also remains heavily focused on Huawei’s own ecosystem, its watch app catalogue is limited compared with Garmin Connect IQ, and health metrics such as sleep staging, stress tracking and morning readiness are generally less mature than Firstbeat-derived analytics or measurements taken with a dedicated HRV chest strap. At 45.6mm, the case can feel large on smaller wrists, particularly during strength training or overnight wear, while charging still relies on Huawei’s proprietary magnetic wireless puck instead of standard Qi charging. The EasyCross quick-release strap system is a welcome convenience, although the GT 7 Pro is not officially available in the United States.
What’s new versus the GT 6 Pro
Hardware
- Colour range replaced entirely: Yellow, Green and Black fluoroelastomer EasyCross straps, dropping the GT 6 Pro’s titanium metal bracelet and composite braided strap options
- Weight rises marginally to approximately 55.5g without strap, from 54.7g on the GT 6 Pro

- Trail running mode battery life rises to 51 hours, up from 40 hours in the GT 6 Pro’s equivalent outdoor sports mode, a 28 per cent improvement on an otherwise unchanged set of day-based battery figures
- Huawei states ski-tracking accuracy improves 20 per cent over the GT 6 Pro, based on its own lab comparison
- New indoor and outdoor skiing modes, recording turn count, frequency and G-force
- New golf mode features: a bezel scorecard for 18 holes, and a green view that auto-rotates with player position
- Cycling gains a climb data overview with AI-assisted ride analysis, and a sharp-turn alert at speed
- Coronary heart disease and blood glucose health research programmes added, run with Chinese hospital partners through Huawei’s research app
