Wear OS turns the Watch Ultra into something no previous Moto Watch could be: a smartwatch that pays for your coffee, plays your music, supports your spot, and pairs cleanly with Android phones.
Google Wallet gives contactless payments, and YouTube Music plus any Play Store app installs directly on the watch, rather than relying on proprietary apps like Garmin. Wear OS also brings the stability of Google’s wider ecosystem. The Polar partnership behind the fitness, recovery, and sleep tracking from earlier in the year lends real credibility given Polar’s decades-long expertise with heart related metrics.
What’s new versus the standard Moto Watch
The Watch Ultra is the first Ultra-tier Moto Watch. There is no earlier Ultra model to compare against. The comparison below sets it against Motorola’s standard Moto Watch, its closest sibling in the current range.

Battery life
Motorola rates the Watch Ultra for up to 2 days of active use with the always-on display disabled, tested internally by Motorola rather than independently verified. A 15-minute charge is claimed to restore up to 24 hours of active use. With the always-on display enabled, actual runtime will fall below the 2-day figure, in line with every other always-on OLED Wear OS watch on the market. No independent battery testing has been carried out on this page yet, since the watch is not yet on general sale.
