Expert opinion
ACE never crashed during testing, a contrast tfk draws directly against every new Garmin device he has used. Its size and weight are, in his words, the elephant in the room: necessary for the larger screen and 30-hour battery claim, but a deterrent for performance cyclists rather than adventure riders. Battery life felt closer to 20 hours than the claimed 30. The wind sensor’s Air Boost readings are described as interesting but not yet clearly actionable, and it is not a CdA drag sensor.

Battery life
Wahoo claims up to 30 hours. The recorded battery data in ACE’s FIT files is unreliable, so the figure below is testing-derived rather than pulled from a device log.
| Mode | Battery life |
|---|---|
| Outdoor riding, backlight timeout set to 5 seconds | Around 22 hours in testing, against Wahoo’s claimed 30 |
| Indoor training, no GPS, backlight off | Well over 30 hours; drain measured under 2% per hour |
Features
ACE runs on the Wahoo app rather than the older ELEMNT app. Full feature detail is covered on the Wahoo hub.
Navigation
- Dual-band GPS with on-device turn-by-turn navigation and voice guidance
- Back on Track, Route to Start, Get Me Started and Retrace Route rerouting tools
- Saved locations and on-demand route generation to a searched address
- Komoot Live Sync, with mid-ride route updates pushed from the Komoot app
- Trailforks sync over WiFi or Bluetooth
Route and ride management
- Automatic wireless route download and workout upload with Strava, Ride with GPS and Komoot

Wind Dynamics
The integrated wind sensor reports Air Boost, a live indicator of drafting and tailwind effect, plus a post-ride map view of wind conditions across the route. It is not a CdA drag sensor, and Wahoo has said further functionality is planned.
Audio
- Built-in speaker with three volume levels
- Spoken turn-by-turn directions
- Digital bell, triggered by double-tapping the screen
