The Pro’s Closet (USA) May Be Is in Deep Trouble
Edit: It is now sadly confirmed that the sale is an end-of-business sale. I guess you’ll get some good deals.
A report from Escape Collective (EC) highlights the unusual nature of The Pro’s Closet (TPC) end-of-year sale with some new bikes at half price and some new components at a 75% discount.
TPC specialise in selling certified used gear and previous year’s stock. It’s a great way for customers to get a bargain in normal times but perhaps not so great a model if you’re left with high stocks in a competitive and declining sales environment.
Further markdowns were announced earlier this week and, as one of the company’s affiliates, I received a note this morning of a contract change on the IMPACT platform where many commissions have dropped to zero per cent. Not that it would matter as if these companies go bankrupt then affiliates don’t get paid – as was the case with Wiggle through the AWIN platform.

EC reported lay-offs late last week, and rumours that the business could close before October 2, 2024. Two former employees spoke to EC and confirmed that TPC is in trouble financially and at imminent risk of shutting down. “If they don’t find a buyer in the next month to six weeks, the company’s assets could be auctioned off.“. furthermore, Nick Martin (Founder, TPC) responded to an email enquiry, saying he would be available to talk after October 4.
Take Out
Bargains galore but you might have to rely on the manufacturer’s warranty if anything later goes wrong.
Caveat emptor.
