Apple Fitness+: 3 months free to Strava subscribers + a new Strava Integration

TL;DR Apple Fitness+ now integrates with Strava, allowing your Fitness+ workouts to automatically sync with your Strava feed. You’ll see detailed workout summaries, instructor images, episode details, music genres, metrics, and achievements appear in your feed.
3 Months Free Fitness+ – What’s the Catch?
There isn’t one. If you’re a Strava subscriber and own an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, you qualify for three free months of Fitness+. This offer applies even if you’ve previously redeemed free months, such as when purchasing an Apple Watch.
“Over the past 10 years, we’ve hugely admired what Strava has done to impact the fitness space, especially around the community,”
— Jay Blahnik, Apple VP of Fitness
How Does the Tech Work?
DCRainmaker provides a deep dive into the technical details behind the integration. However, for most users, it should “just work.”
That said, my experience wasn’t as smooth—I inadvertently paid £9.99 for a Fitness+ subscription, completed a workout, and found it didn’t sync back to Strava. While my Strava app was up-to-date, the integration still failed, and I didn’t have the time to troubleshoot further. My partner suggested I RTFM, which I did here, and then it works :-).
Is This a Good Move?
It’s certainly a great way for cyclists and runners to get timely, winter access to some decent guided workouts covering supporting activities like Yoga.
Yes, this partnership is a smart step for both Apple and Strava.
- For Apple: The free three-month offer suggests Apple seeks to grow Fitness+ subscribers, possibly due to slower-than-desired adoption since its launch. While Strava’s large user base could be a source of new customers, it’s unlikely Strava’s more serious athletes will commit to Fitness+ in the long term.
- For Strava: This integration offers Fitness+ users a new way to share their workouts with friends who don’t use Apple devices. Strava could also introduce its platform to Fitness+ users who are unfamiliar with it, expanding its audience. I reckon it will get some traction here for Strava but not much.
