The Garmin Instinct 3 series, including Instinct E, has recently had a few software bumps but only addressed bugs. Today, we get the first news of new features being added. They’re small ones, but they are a nice start.

Here is an overview table followed by some commentary

FeatureInstinct 3 AMOLEDInstinct 3 SolarInstinct E
Added Area Calc app.
Added Jump Rope activity.
Added support for Golf Live Scoring.
Added additional control menu items.
Added After Sunset gesture setting.
Added History glance.
Added Pulse Ox screen to Altitude Acclimation widget.
Added support for Daily Summary.
Added enhanced interval training.

The Area Calc feature is an old one that allows you to walk the perimeter of any piece of ground, such as a field or your back garden, and you can then see the size in the metric of your choice, such as acres, square metres, or whatever.

Golf Live Scoring is another nice but niche feature. Your round is continually updated, as is your position on shared leaderboards.

The table suggests that Instinct E gets more features than the more expensive AMOLED version. I’d have to check, but I suspect the AMOLED version already has these features.

    1. it’s the unrestricted one. 😉

atually good point. I need to look at that. It almost certainly won’t be anything new to Garmin. Just some aspect of interval training that was previously missing in Instinct
