Expert opinion
The Pace 2 was a genuine Garmin alternative at launch: a light, run-focused watch with more on-watch features than a Suunto or Polar at the price, and battery life that suited ultra runners. It did the job for runners and triathletes without pretending to be a lifestyle watch.
GPS accuracy was directly comparable with a Garmin Forerunner 945 in testing. Native Stryd running power support was a first for the category at this price. The Coros app was the weak point relative to the watch hardware, workable but behind Garmin Connect on polish. There is no offline mapping, only breadcrumb navigation, and no AMOLED display, a memory-in-pixel panel instead. Sensor support includes ANT+ as well as Bluetooth, unlike the Bluetooth-only Pace watches that followed it.
The Pace 2 launched with 64MB of flash storage, four times the original Pace’s. Four years of feature updates filled it, and the September 2024 update was the last firmware the watch can take. App-side updates continue, but no new watch features will arrive.
This watch is discontinued and no longer sold by COROS or its retail partners.
