Expert opinion
The COROS Pace 4 offers market-leading training features on the wrist. However its ecosystem off the wrist is not as good as Garmin’s, and its wrist-based abilities are best for in-sport usage rather than being a great all-day smartwatch like the Apple Watch. The Pace 4 is the watch you wear for your racing and training, then leave it in the drawer until next time. Apple is the priority for lifestyle, and Garmin is the priority for advanced, deep and integrated sports features.
The AMOLED panel runs at 390 x 390, roughly four times the resolution of the Pace 3’s memory-in-pixel screen, and the watch still returns 31 hours of dual-frequency recording and 41 hours on all systems. Navigation is a breadcrumb line from a loaded GPX file, with no maps, no street names and no points of interest. Contactless payment, streaming music and a third-party app store are absent. Sensor support is Bluetooth only, which matters to cyclists running ANT+ power meters. Optical heart rate holds well on the treadmill and in steady outdoor running, and under-reads on hill repetitions and on rides beyond two hours. The multisport profile and cycling power meter support are both present at a price where the Garmin Forerunner 165 has neither.
What’s new versus the Pace 3

- Built-in microphone. There is no speaker
- Action button added alongside the digital dial and back button

Software
- Voice Pins recorded mid-activity and voice training logs recorded at the end of an activity, both through the microphone

- The GPS-only mode is removed. Satellite modes are High (all systems) and Max (dual frequency)
