Expert opinion
The Garmin Edge MTB targets mountain bikers who want dedicated off-road navigation, trail data, and performance insights in a rugged, button-only case. Preloaded Trailforks trail maps, Enduro and Downhill ride profiles, jump tracking, Grit and Flow analysis, and ClimbPro for unpaved climbs cover the core mountain-biking use case.
It drops the touchscreen and several road-racing metrics found on Garmin’s other Edge models, a trade that suits trail riders more than road cyclists. Navigation, progression tracking, and post-ride analysis combine here in a way road-focused bike computers don’t attempt.

Ride profiles
Edge MTB adds two mountain bike specific profiles, Enduro and Downhill, alongside standard road, gravel and eBike profiles. Enduro tracks total ascent and descent for each run and the ride overall. Downhill laps automatically each time a descent finishes, so the return to the top by shuttle or lift doesn’t affect ride stats. Both profiles trigger 5Hz GPS recording while descending, for more detailed line and speed data than Garmin’s standard 1Hz recording.
Notable omissions from the wider Edge range are Power Guide, Primary Event, Load Focus, Acute Load, Training Status, cycling ability, ClimbPro Explore, and Wi-Fi workout uploads or map downloads.
