Expert opinion

MARQ Gen 2 is a 46mm titanium tool watch built on the Epix (Gen 2) generation, with a 1.2-inch AMOLED display under domed sapphire, multi-band GPS, 32GB of storage for maps and music, Training Readiness, HRV status and Endurance Score. Garmin rates it for 16 days as a smartwatch and 42 hours of GPS-only recording. It has no LTE or satellite messaging, no speaker or microphone, no flashlight, no ECG and no dive computer, all of which MARQ Gen 3 adds. Garmin.com still sells the titanium Athlete at $1,900, $600 less than the Gen 3 Athlete, which makes it the cheaper way into MARQ for a buyer who does not need phone-free calls or SOS. MARQ Gen 3 vs Gen 2 sets out what the extra $600 buys.
