Expert opinion

Vantage M3 shares the Vantage V3’s processor, GNSS chipset, Elixir Gen 4 sensor and full software feature set, in a 44.7mm case that weighs 53g with strap against the V3’s 57g. The reduction in size costs battery: 30 hours in performance training mode against the V3’s 43 hours, from a 310mAh cell against the V3’s 488mAh.

It carries ECG, SpO2 and skin temperature sensors, a barometer and compass, and offline TOPO maps, the full physiological sensor suite that Polar’s fitness-tier Ignite 3 and Pacer models lack. Navigation is limited to breadcrumb trails and imported routes. Polar retired its on-device route creation tool, Explore, in 2020, and there is no on-watch re-routing.

Battery life fell in two of three modes despite the hardware upgrade. Eco training mode dropped from 127 hours on the M2 to 70 hours, and smartwatch mode from 8 days to 7. Performance training mode rose from 26 to 30 hours. The AMOLED display accounts for the difference.
