Q: What happened to Supersapiens?

Supersapiens built a business around reselling Abbott’s Libre Sense biosensor with its own fuelling-focused app and Garmin integration, then shut down in 2024, taking the sensor, the app and its Connect IQ field with it. Newer Connect IQ tools like Sugar Sense are now filling that gap.

Q: How long after eating a gel does blood sugar rise show up on a CGM?

It varies by person, sensor lag and what else you’ve eaten, but in one basic test it took just over 20 minutes at rest for a gel to register as a rise in the app.

Question 1

Can you use a FreeStyle Libre if you're not diabetic?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Non-diabetic and pre-diabetic athletes wear CGM sensors to see how food, sleep, and training affect their blood glucose. However, anyone with a diagnosed condition should confirm sensor use with their diabetes team first.

Question 2

How much does the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus cost and how long does it last?

Accepted Answer

Typical UK pricing runs to about GBP80-90 per sensor, and roughly EUR60-100 in the EU depending on the pharmacy. Each sensor lasts around two weeks, so keeping one on year-round adds up quickly.

Question 3

Does FreeStyle Libre still work if your phone isn't nearby?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The sensor keeps sampling and caches new readings even when your phone is out of range, then sends the backlog through once you’re back within Bluetooth distance, so no data is lost.

Question 4

Is the NFC scan on FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus reliable?

Accepted Answer

Not especially. Tapping the sensor with a phone over NFC is meant to give an instant reading without opening the app, but in practice it can be inconsistent, so the live app-based reading remains the more dependable option.

Question 5

What happened to Supersapiens?

Accepted Answer

Supersapiens built a business around reselling Abbott’s Libre Sense biosensor with its own fuelling-focused app and Garmin integration, then shut down in 2024, taking the sensor, the app and its Connect IQ field with it. Newer Connect IQ tools like Sugar Sense are now filling that gap.

Question 6

Could you see glucose data on an Apple Watch before Sugar Sense?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Supersapiens shipped an Apple Watch app back in 2023 that mirrored its iPhone readings onto the wrist, though it still needed the phone in range and only worked with its own biosensor rather than a standard FreeStyle Libre or Dexcom sensor.

Question 7

How long after eating a gel does blood sugar rise show up on a CGM?

Accepted Answer

It varies by person, sensor lag and what else you’ve eaten, but in one basic test it took just over 20 minutes at rest for a gel to register as a rise in the app.
