Question 1

When did WHOOP 5.0 come out?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP launched the 5.0 and the WHOOP MG together in May 2025. Existing members with at least six months remaining on a current subscription received the new hardware free of charge.

Question 2

What is WHOOP MG?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP MG is the medical-grade variant of the WHOOP 5 generation. It adds an on-demand ECG, notifications for irregular heart rhythms, and a daily blood pressure trend estimate. It requires the Life subscription tier.

Question 3

What is the difference between WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP 5.0 hardware ships with the One and Peak tiers and tracks strain, recovery, sleep, and steps. WHOOP MG adds an FDA-cleared ECG, notifications of irregular heart rhythms, and overnight blood pressure estimates. The MG sits on the Life membership tier and costs more per month.

Question 4

Is there a WHOOP 6?

Accepted Answer

There is no WHOOP 6 as of the latest update to this review. Existing members with six or more months remaining on a subscription will receive the next-generation hardware at no additional cost when it launches.

Question 5

Does WHOOP measure blood pressure?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP MG estimates blood pressure overnight. The standard WHOOP 5.0, covering the One and Peak tiers, does not. The MG uses optical sensors to track pulse pressure trends after a one-off calibration with a standard blood pressure cuff.

Question 6

Does WHOOP take blood pressure?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP MG takes a single overnight blood pressure estimate each day. It captures systolic and diastolic ranges as a daily trend rather than continuous readings. The standard WHOOP 5.0 does not measure blood pressure.

Question 7

Can WHOOP track blood pressure?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP MG tracks daily blood pressure trends. The feature requires an initial calibration against a conventional cuff and recalibration roughly once a month. The standard WHOOP 5.0 has no blood pressure capability.

Question 8

Is WHOOP a blood pressure monitor?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP MG provides indicative blood pressure trend data, useful for tracking direction over weeks and months. Use a validated cuff for any medical decision. The standard WHOOP 5.0 has no blood pressure function.

Question 9

Does the WHOOP 5 measure blood pressure?

Accepted Answer

Only the WHOOP MG variant of the WHOOP 5 generation measures blood pressure. The WHOOP 5.0 One and WHOOP 5.0 Peak tiers do not. Buy the Life membership to access the blood pressure feature.

Question 10

Is WHOOP blood pressure accurate?

Accepted Answer

In my testing, WHOOP MG produced plausible daily values within a few points of my calibration cuff and tracked the right direction over weeks. Accuracy depends on regular recalibration and a stable wear position. The FDA disputes WHOOP’s blood pressure claims, and the algorithm may yet be modified.

Question 11

Does WHOOP need a blood pressure cuff?

Accepted Answer

Yes. WHOOP MG requires a one-off calibration against a standard upper arm blood pressure cuff. Take three seated readings, spaced 1 minute apart, and enter them into the app. Recalibrate roughly once a month for accurate trend data.

Question 12

How does WHOOP estimate blood pressure?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP MG uses optical sensors to track heart rate, HRV, and blood flow patterns during sleep. The algorithm combines these signals with your demographic data and your cuff calibration to estimate overnight pulse pressure, including systolic and diastolic ranges.

Question 13

What does Reddit say about WHOOP blood pressure?

Accepted Answer

Reddit threads typically raise three concerns: occasional overestimation versus a cuff, drift between calibrations, and the FDA’s challenge to WHOOP’s marketing claims. My own tests align with the drift observation, but show the daily trend remains useful when calibration is current.

Question 14

Will the standard WHOOP 5.0 get blood pressure later?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP has not announced plans to bring blood pressure estimation to the One or Peak tiers. The feature sits behind the Life membership and the MG hardware. The FDA position may further restrict where and how the feature is offered.

Question 15

Can I use WHOOP without a subscription?

Accepted Answer

No. WHOOP requires an active membership to function. The hardware is bundled with the membership rather than sold separately, and the app, coaching, and data analysis stop when the subscription ends.

Question 16

Can I use WHOOP without a membership?

Accepted Answer

No. The WHOOP business model bundles hardware, app, and coaching into a single recurring fee. There is no one-off purchase option, and the device has no standalone functionality outside the app.

Question 17

Is there a WHOOP coupon code or discount?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP rarely issues coupon codes. The best available offer is a free first month and a free trial through partner links. Use the5krunner.com/whoop and the discount applies automatically at checkout.

Question 18

How much does a WHOOP membership cost?

Accepted Answer

Annual membership starts at $149 for WHOOP 5.0 One, $220 for WHOOP 5.0 Peak, and $330 for WHOOP MG Life. Monthly options run at $25, $30, and $40, respectively. UK and EU pricing differ slightly and are listed in the pricing table further down this page.

Question 19

What is WHOOP Life?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP Life is the top membership tier and the only tier that includes the WHOOP MG hardware, the ECG, irregular heart rhythm notifications, daily blood pressure trends, and the stress monitor. It costs $40 per month or $330 per year.

Question 20

What is WHOOP Peak?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP Peak is the mid membership tier. It uses the standard WHOOP 5.0 hardware and adds the healthspan and pace-of-ageing features, the stress monitor, and Women’s Hormonal Insights. The ECG and blood pressure features sit on the Life tier above it.

Question 21

What is the WHOOP bicep band?

Accepted Answer

The WHOOP bicep band, marketed as the Arm Sleeve, is a fabric sleeve with a pouch that holds the WHOOP pod against the upper arm. It improves heart rate accuracy during exercise and protects the device during contact sports. The 4.0 sleeve fits the 5.0 pod.

Question 22

How do I charge the WHOOP pod?

Accepted Answer

Slide the wireless PowerPack onto the WHOOP pod. The charge transfers without removing the band, so you can wear and charge at the same time. The PowerPack charges via USB-C and holds capacity for several full WHOOP charges. The 5.0 pod runs for 14 days or more between charges.

Question 23

Is the WHOOP charger waterproof?

Accepted Answer

The WHOOP pod is waterproof and rated for swimming and showering. The charger PowerPack is splash-resistant only. Remove the charger before swimming. A brief shower will not damage it.

Question 24

Are WHOOP 4.0 bands compatible with WHOOP 5.0 or MG?

Accepted Answer

No. The 5.0 generation uses a new strap mechanism, and the 4.0 bands do not fit. The 4.0 WHOOP Body apparel, including the bicep sleeve, does fit the new pod.

Question 25

Are WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG bands interchangeable?

Accepted Answer

Yes. WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG share the same band and accessory ecosystem. Bands, sleeves, and apparel work on either pod.

Question 26

Is WHOOP a bracelet or a fitness tracker?

Accepted Answer

WHOOP is a screenless fitness band worn at the wrist or upper arm. It tracks heart rate, strain, recovery, and sleep continuously and pairs with a phone app for analysis. It is not a watch and shows no data on the band itself.

Question 27

How do I log in to WHOOP?

Accepted Answer

Log in to the WHOOP app using the email address and password you registered. The web platform is at app.whoop.com and accepts the same credentials. Single sign-on via Apple and Google is also supported.

Question 28

How do I contact WHOOP customer service?

Accepted Answer

Open the WHOOP app, tap the More tab, then Help. WHOOP responds via email, typically within 24 hours. Membership cancellation, hardware faults, and replacement requests all route through the same channel.

Question 29

Is the Fitbit Air a credible WHOOP alternative?

Accepted Answer

The Fitbit Air, launched 26 May 2026 at $99.99, is the most credible low-cost alternative to WHOOP to date. It matches the screenless form factor and 12-gram comfort, and replaces the mandatory subscription with an optional one. WHOOP retains the edge in battery life (14 days versus 7), the bicep band ecosystem, strength-training analysis, biomarker correlations, and the on-demand ECG. The Fitbit Air is the better fit for casual wellness buyers. WHOOP remains the better fit for CrossFit, HYROX, and serious endurance athletes.

Question 30

Should I buy a Fitbit Air or a WHOOP?

Accepted Answer

Buy the Fitbit Air at $99.99 for screenless wellness tracking without a mandatory subscription, particularly as a Pixel Watch night-time partner. Buy WHOOP if you train seriously, value the bicep band ecosystem, want strength training analysis from velocity-based modelling, or follow biomarker panels through the Advanced Labs service. The Fitbit Air’s Google Health app is more sophisticated for casual users. The WHOOP app is deeper for athletes.
