Review: syncmytracks software app

syncmytracks

I came across this software after being unable to automatically get data out of Polar Flow and was recommended it by a friend. It’s useful for that purpose as well as providing an alternative to the well-known tapiriik/fitnesssyncer.com – between them they are likely to cover the sports data sites you use.

After you set up the flows of the data between your account providers and other details like ‘security’ you just select the sync button and off you go.

Positives:  Links to the main sports watch-related sites ie Suunto Movescount, Garmin Connect and Polar Flow. Also to popular apps/sites such as Endomondo, MapMyFitness, Nike+ Running, Runkeeper, Runtastic and Strava.

Gives the option to sync data that does NOT contain GPS data (eg from indoor sessions) Strava never used to like the absence of GPS data.

The app does not delete any data anywhere. It did not cause duplicates for me – although no doubt there will be some obscure scenarios where this happens.

The app has a nicely high feedback store on Googleplay and is supported on Android version above v2.3.

Negatives:  Lacks links to dropbox (although does support a local download), Epson Runsense, Velohero, Trainerroad, smashrun and sportstracks.mobi. It’s a little slow but so are the alternatives.

Only works on Android.

Comments:  The FREE version does not allow a password to be saved and so is impractical to use on a continuous basis. However the FREE version more than adequately lets you understand the functionality to know whether or not to commit the time to setting it up and using it.

Alternatives: The most widely known alternative is tapiriik.com which charges an annual subscription fee of $2pa. Tapiriik does not currently link to Polar Flow, Adidas miCoach, mapmyfitness, Nike+ Running, runtastic, sportstracker, Suunto Movescount.

Of course many sites like Garmin Connect will provide automated links to other sites, most usually Strava.

On the IPhone you might try RUNGAP.
