At an rrp of $364.95, this is Lazer’s top-end pro TT helmet for general release later in the year. However, it will likely be used in anger in the Tour de France Time Trial of 2020 by Team Sunweb & Team Jumbo-Visma (19 Sept). This Time Trial is on the penultimate day of the Tour and will probably be the decider for the GC, almost certainly this helmet will be used by Primož Roglič, Steven Kruijswijk and Tom Dumoulin.
You can see from the images, below, that this doesn’t look as aero as some TT helmets do but then how they look and how they behave aerodynamically are two potentially different things. Obviously this has been super-optimised in wind tunnels ad infinitum and Lazer claims it to be their fastest ever.
The features packed around the aerodynamics are interesting, in the sense that it’s not just about that perfect shape. If like me, you have a slightly older TT helmet then you may well dread those hot, summer race days when you know you’ll be over-heating within 10-minutes. The Volante has a ‘stuff’ box at the rear for your ponytail or icebox (whichever you prefer). The fit system allows both tightening and tilting of the helmet unlike your regular helmet which will likely just allow tightening.
Add in the anti-bac padding and a decent magneticpanoramic lens and you are good to go.
