new Garmin Instinct Crossover leaked
Just when you thought you had mastered Garmin’s insanely confusing product line up…here comes another micro product-differentiation.
Welcome to the Instinct Crossover – It’s like Garmin Instinct 2 but with real analogue clock hands.

At first, I thought this was an Instinct with an AMOLED screen. People do love AMOLED screens and Garmin is adding them like crazy to new products; an example of which appeared only this morning with the MARQ 2 and also a few weeks ago with the Porsche Epix 2. So AMOLED would make some sense even at the more budget end of Garmin’s price scale. Although one of Instinct’s selling points is forever battery life…and an AMOLED screen certainly isn’t going to help that.
Anyway, it’s NOT AMOLED.
It looks like the strange mini-display circle thing in the top right-hand corner of the original Instinct’s screen is entirely removed to make way for a more conventional full-screen, single display. If the logic there was to make a fugly watch prettier then Garmin seems to have succeeded. (Actually, the Instinct is not too bad and some people love it).
The most interesting aspect is that Garmin has then added an analogue clock with real hands that overlays the digital screen. Ta da!
Then, as you can see, we get a Solar option and a Tactical Solar option.
I’ve copied the specs in Taiwanese (ahem) and maybe there is a maximum battery life of 287 days? It says elsewhere that there are 31 hours of battery life in GPS mode 2. How that ties in with the chart below, I’ve no idea.
The screen resolution remains the same as the instinct 2 at 176x176px. Other than that, I defer to anyone with superior knowledge of the Taiwanese language…which is probably just about anyone other than me.
I’m sorry I just can’t get excited about this, even though an analogue+digital hybrid screen is a good idea.

I don’t hate this a priori. Analog hands with a digital face could be cool.

I’d be more interested ina Tag Heuer equivalent 😉 (I know they do a WearOS model)
This would be a good competitor to Casio’s G-Shock’s.
yep, i think they are partly targetting that and also the people who cant afford fenix
My dream watch would be a Fenix with analog watch face and AMOLED screen appearing on top of it only when I need it. Closely we’re getting there 🙂
eesh! interesting
i dont think that’ll ever come to a Fenix
I love hybrid watchs! Unfortunately there aren’t too many good ones on the market! Fossil/Skagen have fogging issues. Withings is very limited and I had quality issues with the horizon. Tissot T touch connect solar is beautiful, but also limited in sports functions, otherwise I love mine. Sadly mine has a warrantial issue, the baro thermo sensor stopped working ( I had this issue with Garmin instinct 2 times). Instinct crossover will be an instant get to me.
